PENTEPOLIS 9 NOVEMBER
Before the writing of the Holy Scriptures - that is, the writing of the Holy Gospels, the Acts and the Epistles of the Holy Apostles, and, before they were spread to all the churches of the world - the Holy Church of Christ was based on verbal Holy Tradition. Therefore, the Holy Scriptures are only a small part of the entire Holy Tradtion of the Church of Christ. Our Holy Church Fathers regard Holy Tradition as the safe Guide in the correct interpretation of Holy Scripture and absolutely necessary for understanding the Truths contained in the Holy Scripture. The Church received many Traditions from the Apostles... The constitution of the Church Services, especially of the Divine Liturgy, the Holy Mysteries themselves and the manner of performing them, certain Prayers and other institutions of the Church begin with the Holy Tradition of the Apostles of Christ. In their conferences, the Holy Synods draw not only from Holy Scripture, but also from Holy Tradition as though from a Pure Fountain Thus, the Seventh Ecumenical Synod declares in the 8th Decree: "If one violates any part of the Church Tradition, either written or unwritten, let him be anathema."
On Discovering God
It is evident that unbelief is an evil offspring of an evil heart; for the guileless and pure heart discovers God and discerns Him everywhere, and always unhesitatingly believes in His Existence. When those of pure heart look at the World of Nature - that is, at the sky, the earth, and the sea and at all things in them, and observe the systems constituting them, the infinite multitude of stars of heaven, the innumerable multitudes of birds and quadrupeds and every kind of animal of the earth, the variety of plants on it, the abundance of fish in the sea - they are immediately amazed and exclaim with King David the Psalmist: "How great are Thy works, O Lord! In Wisdom Thou made them all!" Impelled by their pure hearth, such people also discover God in the Realm of Grace of His Holy Church, from which those who are evil are far removed. Those who are pure of heart believe in His Holy Church and admire and respect and Love Her Spiritual System where we are able to discover and Experience the very Presence of Almighty God in Her Holy Mysteries, in the Heights of Theology, in the Light of the Divine Revelations, in the Divine Truth of Christs Teachings, in the Commandments of His Divine Law, in the achievements of the Saints, in the very Good Deed, in every Perfect Gift, and in general in the whole of Creation. Justly then did our Lord say in His Beatitudes of those possessing Purity of the heart: "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."

The Divine Light Illumines the pure heart and the pure intellect, because these are susceptible to receiving the Divine Light - whereas impure hearts and intellects, not being susceptible to receiving Illumination, have an aversion to the Divine Light of Knowledge and Truth. Those whose hearts are impure prefer the darkness of ignorance and sin. God Loves those who have a pure heart and He listens to their Prayers and grants them their requests that lead to Salvation. Furthermore He reveals Himself to them and teaches them the Mysteries of His Divine Nature.
When the Holy Relics of St Nektarios were removed from the grave on 2 September, 1953, they exuded a beautiful fragrance of Sanctity, which wafted throughout the area for a while, as had occurred after his Repose at the hospital in 1920. Official recognition of St Nektarios as a Saint by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople took place on 20 April, 1961. Thousands of Divine Miracles are attributed to his Intercession, particularly in cases of cancer or other serious illnesses which have been cured.
On the Church
The term Church, according to the strict Orthodox view, has two meanings, one of them expressing its Doctrinal and religious character -that is: its Inner, peculiarly Spiritual Essence, and the other expressing its external character. Thus, according to the Orthodox Confession, the Church is defined in a twofold manner: as a religious Institution, and as a religious Community (Koinonia). The definition of the Church as a religious Institution may be formulated thus: The Church is a Divine Religious Institution of the New Covenant, which is built by our Saviour, Jesus Christ, through His incarnate Dispensation, established upon Faith on the day of Holy Pentecost by the Descent of the All-Holy Spirit upon the Holy Disciples and Apostles of our Lord, whom He rendered as His Holy Instruments of Divine Grace for the perpetuation of His Work of Redemption. In this Holy Institution is entrusted the totality of Revealed Truths, within which operates Divine Grace through the Holy Mysteries whereby those who with Faith approach our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and are Regenerated. The Holy Church of Christ has Faithfully and Truthfully preserved both the Written and the Verbal Apostolic Teachings and Holy Tradition. The definition of the Church as a Religious Community may be formulated thus: The Church is a Society of mankind United in the Unity of the Holy Spirit and the Bond of Peace. The Holy Church of Christ consists of the Church Militant and the Church Triumphant - for She is the Church Militant so long as we Struggle against the wickedness of the evil one for the prevalence of the Goodness and Blessings of God, and She is the Church Triumphant in Heaven where Choirs of the Righteous, who successfully Struggled during their Lifespan were consequently Perfected in Faith and in Virtue. Holy Tradition is the very Church of Christ because without Holy Tradition the Church does not exist and those who reject or deny the complete and Perfect Holy Tradition deny the Church of Christ, our Lords Teachings and Commandments as well as the preaching of His Holy Apostles and our Holy Church Fathers throughout the ages who preserved and maintained Divine Truth.

Alexandria 15th September 1998 The Holy Spirit has Enlightened the gathered members of the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and all Africa, under the leadership of His Beatitude, Petros VII, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa, more than a century since Saint Nektarios, the great Teacher and Father of the Holy Eastern Orthodox Church was expelled from the Church of Alexandria, to reach the following decision: Taking into account the resolution of the Church to rank Saint Nektarios amongst the Saints because of his innumerable Miracles and his acceptance within the Religious Conscience of Orthodox Christians throughout the world, we appeal to the Mercy of the Ever-Charitable God. We hereby restore the Ecclesiastical Order of the Saint of our Century, Saint Nektarios, and grant to him all due credits and honours. We beseech Saint Nektarios to forgive both us, unworthy as we are, and our predecessors, our Brothers of the Throne of Alexandria, for opposition to the Saint and for all which, due to human weakness or error, our Holy Father, Bishop of Pentapolis, Saint Nektarios, suffered. PETROS VII By the Grace of God Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa.

Nektarios knew that Thou were portrayed by the Jar wherein the Manna of old was preserved, O Pure One, and by the Lamp that was bright with Divine Light. And he, as a True Worker of Virtue, was worthily Illumined in his soul and his mind by Thy Radiance. Therefore he proclaimed it in Orthodox Manner, that Thou, O Theotokos, art at the same time a Pure Virgin and the Mother of Christ our Giod.
