Teaching And Learning Activities 1. Teacher greets pupils. 2. Teacher brings pupils to the out of the class. 3. Pupils walk around the school compound and list out the things that they see in the form that have been given to them.(Appendix 1) 4. Pupils list the things that they saw and back to class.

Living things versus non-living things

Group activity: 1. Teacher asks pupils to form a group of 5. 2. Teacher gives 2 empty boxes and some flashcards of things in each group.(Teaching aids 1) 3. Pupils asked to discriminates the flashcards whether its a living thing or non- living things. 4. Teacher asks pupils to find the characteristic of living things. 5. Different kind of foods

1. Teacher distributes to pupils a list of foods. 2. Pupils mark the pictograph.(Appendix 1) 3. Teacher discuss with pupils about the different kind of foods. 4. Teacher asks pupils to say the foods that gives energy, help to grow and help to stay healthy based on the food pyramid.(Teaching aids 2) 5. Pupils say the unhealthy foods that they cant take. 6. Pupils state their weight and height from birth to present. 7. Teacher explains to pupils that as we grow we change.

Restructuring of Idea (15 minutes)

Foods

1. Pupils are divided into 5 groups. 2. Each group is given a mah-jong paper and some pictures. 3. Pupils categorize the pictures into 3 categories.(Appendix 2) i) foods that give energy

Eliciting idea (15 minutes)

Different foods that animals eat

1. Teacher shows a power point presentation and pupils watch it carefully.(Presentation 2) 2. Teacher and pupils discuss about the different needs of different animals. 3. Teacher introduces the words herbivore. Carnivore and omnivore. 4. Teacher explains about the three categories of animals. 5. Pupils give some example on animals that eat other animals, animals that eat plant and animals that eat both plants and animals.

Restructuring of idea ( 20 minutes)

1. Pupils sit in a round shape. 2. Pupils are given a box that containing different kind of animals.(Teaching aids 1)

3. Teacher starts music and pupils pass the box among themselves. 4. When teacher stops the music, pupils who hold the box takes out a picture and say the category of the animal. 5. Teacher pastes a mah-jong paper on the whiteboard. 6. Pupils work in group. 7. Each group is given a picture card. 8. When teacher blows the whistle, the representative of every group come forward and paste the picture card according to the category. 9. Beans planting

1. Pupils take out the soil, water and beans that teacher asked to bring. (Teaching aids 1) 2. Teacher do the demonstration how to plant the beans. 3. Pupils watch it carefully. 4. Pupils plant their beans in a pot and water it. 5. They arrange the pots around the class. 6. Teacher asks pupils to watch the plants every day and record the information in table given.

The growing stages of a plant

1. Pupils watch a power point presentation.(Presentation 1) 2. Pupils talk about the growing of a plant. 3. Teacher shows some more steps the way plants grow. 4. Pupils watch the way plants grow. 5. Pupils work in groups. Teacher gives some fruits to each

group. 6. Pupils cut out the fruit and take out the seeds. Teacher reminds pupils to be careful when handling the knife. (Teaching aids 2) 7. Pupils identify the fruits that have one seed and more seeds. 8. Teacher explains to pupils that flowering plants produce seeds which grow into new plant. 9.
