Reflection paper in Surveying 1

Surveying is a part of the curriculum for civil engineering course. And for me surveying is a first step towards the fulfillment of my dream, to become a successful civil engineer. When our instructor gave the course outline, I find it not easy. I have no idea about leveling etc. and some technical topics that were given. First my instructor gave the true meaning of being a civil engineer. There are 3 but I only remember 1. Which is, the community must be satisfied from the work of a civil engineer. Where in people must feel that they are safe in the structures that civil engineers have made. In the preliminary grading period, it is quite hard to adjust because I have no idea about surveying. Until I read books about it. First lesson is about error. Erroneous tape correction and other tape error correction. I dont deeply understand the topic but when I read the book I now understand. And then we have our first field work. I like fieldworks a lot because fieldwork for me is more realistic than discussion. I can applied what is been discuss and know the true feeling and what is really happening when conducting a specific field work. Our first fieldwork was pace factor. Pace factor is one great technique when you dont have enough length of your measuring tape. It is when you will get your pace and do some computations and then you will get the distance of a line. According to our data analysis it is 96.65 % accurate. Our preliminary exam, I find it difficult because I dont even know leveling. I try to ask my friend to discuss it to me but its not clear. And I got a low score. In the Midterm grading period, lessons have been discussed like, leveling, bearing, azimuth traversing. Etc. we also had our field work which is the trigonometric leveling. Where in we used the technique called offset, that our instructor taught us. And our instructor proposed an off-campus fieldwork. First I have no idea about it. Our instructor assigns some of us to work with the proposal paper. And we work on that paper. Me as the organizer, it was my first time to organize an event/activity. At first it was rejected but the objectives have been revised. Our main objective now is to get the accuracy of a readily available Smartphone app. Our proposal now has been approved and the off-campus is well conducted. In the final grading period, the requirements are given. Many requirements are given by our instructor. And it is in the final period when our final fieldwork was made. The discussion about omitted measurements, area of a traverse and etc. have been made. And the final exams came and I find it hard again. Fulfillment of requirements eats lot of time and we should submit it. Surveying 1 is such a great subject for me. With my associate and group we conquer the hard challenges we faced in this subject. Although it is not as organized as I imagine when we are working together as a team. We keep on working to finish the work. I wish that we will passed this subject and continue our journey towards our goal to be successful civil engineers.
