PLANNING THE INSALLATION

Application:
The Total Heat Exchanger is designed to draws outdoor fresh air through the ventilator for distribution throughout the house. Stale air is exhausted through the ventilator and to the outdoors. Ducting between the ventilator and outdoors and ducting in unconditioned space must be insulated. An independent piping system or combination with duct air conditioning system is selectable.

Sizing
There are several standards provide guideline for required fresh air volume to maintain a healthy indoor living environment.

ASHRAE 62-1989 for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality suggests 0.35 air changes per hour (ACH) but not less than 15cfm(25CMH) per person for living areas China Indoor Air Quality Regulation requires at least 30CMH per person for living areas Honeywell recommends 0.6 to 1 air changes per hour (ACH) for energy recovery ventilation system design, this air change rate must be verified to meet 30CMH per person requirement. Required Air Flow Volume (CMH)=Room Area (sqm) xNet Story Height (m) xAir Change Per Hour (ACH) Example: For a 150 square meter living area apartment complex, net story height is 2.6m (exclude the false ceiling space) =150sqmx2.6mx0.6ACH=234CMH It should be noted that these standards only set the minimum required fresh air change rate. The actual design will be dictated by local circumstances or application requirement.

Mounting Position and Location

The Total Heat Exchanger can be suspended from exposed ceiling joints or ceiling surface.

Locate fresh air intake 2m or more from stale air exhaust to prevent exhaust air from re-entering. Locate ERV where length of piping required is minimal. Use an existing electrical outlet with appropriate current rating (or install one) close to ERV power cord. For access and replace filters, certain service space or service hole on false ceiling in front of unit must be considered

Ducting
IMPORTANT

To make sure satisfactory fresh air distribution, air pressure drop in duct system must be verified by professional designer. It is strongly recommended to check with HDDK authorized distributors or HDDK office to get technical support. Design and installation of ductwork must be according to standard HVAC practice to deliver required quantities of fresh air to temperature-controlled space and exhaust equivalent quantities of room air to the outside. Keep intake and exhaust pipe runs as short as possible with few bends or elbows. Energy Recovery Ventilation system can be a completely independent system. Whatever duct air conditioning system exists. The duct can be suspended in false ceiling If a central air conditioning system is used, the ERV system can utilize duct system through piping the supply outlet to supply air duct or heat exchanging terminals. It can significantly reduce installation work and improve ESP.

We can also provide other optional controllers which will be shown below.
Wall Mounting LCD Controller

LCD wall-mounting controller is standard main controller(see Fig. ). The controller has following main functions:

Power On/Off Synchronization with Air Conditioner operation Fan Speed Control: 3-fan speeds push button to provide 3-fan speed option.

Optional Control

Indoor fresh air volume demand is subject to the status of indoor air quality. CO2 density, VOC density and moisture level are critical factors to decide whether the house is under ventilation or over ventilation. Total Heat Exchanger can link with intelligent residential central control system and optimize the operation performance, maximize energy saving.
CO2 Control- see figure below

Non Disperse Infrared-Red wave control technology is able to accurately measure CO2 density in several seconds. Big LCD display monitor indoor CO2 level on live. Configurable CO2 high level limit through laptop computer to provide customized IAQ control.

VOC Control- see figure below

Measurement of a variety of air quality factors, The following particles and gases can be detected: cigarette smoke, hydrogen, carbon monoxide, ethanol, ammonia, etc. In contrast to CO2 controller, which selectively measure the concentration of only one type of gas, a mixed gas sensor is a broadband detector, i.e. the sensor signal does not indicate the type of gas or its concentration in PPM (parts per million). The complex and constantly changing composition of room air makes it necessary to perform broadband air quality measurement.
Moisture Control- see figure below

The activities of the occupants increase the moisture level. Running the Fresh Air Cleaner provides maximum moisture removal when the outside air contains less moisture than the inside air.

INSALLATION
When Installing this Product,
1. 2. 3. 4. Read these instructions carefully. Failure to follow these instructions could damage the product or cause a hazardous condition. Check the ratings on the product to make sure the product is suitable for your application. Installer must be a trained, experienced service technician. After installation is complete, check out product operation as provided in these instructions.

! CAUTION
Electrical shock hazard. Can cause personal injury or equipment damage.

Disconnect power supply to prevent electrical shock or equipment damage.

Unpacking Total Heat Exchanger

Check that all the components are included. The Total Heat Exchanger is shipped assembled. Except for the mounting hardware and fittings, the Total Heat Exchanger is ready for installation. Wiring and ducting are required to complete the installation.

Mounting
Ceiling Mount

1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Keep minimum 50mm clearance between the top side of Total Heat Exchanger and the true ceiling when position Total Heat Exchanger for ceiling suspension Use expansion screw anchor to fasten thread rod on true ceiling. Screw the tread rod on ventilator mounting feet by hex nuts and washer Make sure the mounting is level. Leave enough services opening on the false ceiling beside the main unit.

WIRING

! CAUTION
Electrical shock hazard. Can cause personal injury or equipment damage.

Be sure Total Heat Exchanger is correctly wired. Confirm polarity of power line switched with safety. (Disconnect) switch when cleaning or servicing unit. For basic control function, only wall mounting controller need be wired. Wiring connection of main controller, CO2 controller, VOC controller and humidity controller are seen in controller product data sheet respectively.

NOTE: Specific wiring please take the wiring diagram on the product as final reference.

AIRFLOW BALANCING
Volume balanced airflow is critical to performance of whole system. Airflow volume at each air diffuser must be close to designing value. Unbalanced system may cause:

Stale air trap in some area Excessive fresh air in some area High noise for high air flow speed reason

The balancing procedure is as follows:

Make sure all sealing of the ducting system is completed. All of the Energy Recovery Ventilation system components are in place and functioning properly. Fully open of supplying air diffusers. Turn on Total Heat Exchanger and switch to high speed. Adjust the opening scale of damper on supplying air diffuser in terms of designed air flow volume, use air speed meter to check actual air flow volume. The adjustment should be from the farthest point to nearest point of air cleaner, from branch line to main line.

SERVICE

! CAUTION
Electrical shock hazard. Can cause personal injury or equipment damage.

Open access door, carefully grip core ends and pull it out evenly. Core fits tightly but slides out of cabinet. Remove filters. Clean filters with water or a combination of soap Clean core with a vacuum cleaner. Vacuum only filter sides of core to pull dirt back out of core and not through it. Reinstall clean core and clean filter.
