SOCIOLOGY

People think that their lives are series of traps because everyone has many problems to face. It continuously comes and hardly goes. Meaning, that people are bound to their own world and feel uneasiness in solving their own troubles and yet another trouble is coming. They feel that they cannot overcome a problem in their world. People are bounded to their private life, family, friends, etc. that they cannot come out of their boxes. It is like a series of traps. You are bound in the first trap and when you are close from being released in the first one, another will follow. There is a difference between personal troubles and public issues. Personal troubles are the conflicts within one s self. Meaning it is the problem experienced by an individual from his daily life. It has to do with a persons attitude and behavior. Personal troubles can only be solved by the individuals desire. On the other hand, public issues are the problems or conflicts in our society, in the mere structure of our society. I also experience personal troubles as a student. One of which is being late in class due to heavy traffic on my way to the university. I always wake up early and leave home almost two hours before class but still Im late in my first period. That personal trouble that I have can be associated to public issues. Government must take actions in reducing the traffic, in that way a lot of people commuting on to their way to school or offices wont be late just like what Im experiencing every day.

The Promise of Sociology by C. Wright Mills talks about the relationship of an individual to the society. According to C. Wright Mills, what occurs in any one individual's life is interrelated with society as a whole. The sociological imagination gives us the ability to understand the correlation of one's biography, history, and traditions along with the knowledge of the social and historical impact and/or influence society may have on that person or group of people. Mills' notion compels us to investigate into an individual's biography and lifestyles, and place their findings within the surrounding circumstances in which events occur in order to perceive the whole picture of the society in which the individual lives. The sociological imagination is the promise that supposed to help man to understand that what is happening to themselves is a result of intersections of history and biography within their society. Through sociology, every individual can understand the importance of being aware in the structure of our society and of complex nature of social life and differentiation I society. Sociology is one of the keys for the people to become more responsible and active citizen in the society he/she belongs with. Moreover, sociology improves our understanding of society and increases the power of social action, capabilities, talents and limitations. It enables him to adjust himself to the environment. Knowledge of society, social groups, social institutions, associations, their functions etc. helps us to lead an effective social life.
