"our teaching/ learning !ocus !or this lesson (based on your evaluation of your pupils achievements in the last one)

Pupils last lesson did a practical on filtering and evaporating a rocksalt solution. This lesson will run over what happened in the experiment and understanding what happens when substances dissolve. What did you learn about organising a practical lesson !id they do the practical well Why Was it because you clearly demonstrated to them what to do and explained clearly what you expected in terms of safety and what to write down Was it also because of the way you set out the e"uipment and organised the e"uipment around the room to avoid students crowding in to one area !o you need to do this again #ow are you going to achieve this Will you be using students to help you demonstrate what to do Will you be using targeted "uestions Will you be ensuring that all the students write answers on the white board during the $%& and the demos 's this important
#upils$ Learning %bjecti&es 'ill be: (Pupils will know, Pupils will understand, Pupils will be able to) 1 (now that mass is conserved when solids dissolve #upils$ %utco(es 'ill be: (What will the pupils have done to show you that the objective has been achieved) Students write down answer in mini W)*s +an you demonstrate before and after mass See if 1 there is something on youtube or one of the (S,%(S- revision sites +ompleted matching keywords activity. discussion. Show by dissolving more and more salt or sugar in cold water .. could do this as a ) class activity. /ou 0ust need 1 beaker per pair stirrers and salt or sugar. They will soon see when no more salt can dissolve. Show on mini W)*s that soluble substances dissolve through filter paper. !o a practical .2epeat the above dissolving of salt experiment now using hotter water 3 use a kettle to get hot water 4 explain safety with hot water.. see me if necessary5 6se water at room temp 25o then about -7o then about 87o then boiling. 3 6se thermometers to find temp. They temp only need to be approx. +iti9enship +ompare experiment with how soap power dissolves at different temp in a washing machines. :et a picture of Persil etc packet to show temps. 's it important that soap powder dissolves at low temp as welllas high

!escribe meaning of a saturated solution

!escribe and explain factors affecting rate of dissolving and other ways of separating mixtures

#ersonalisation Strategies: Plan for the less able%those on S;< +ode of Practice= #elp sheet for the keywords matching. #ow instruction will be given Plan for the more able%those on gifted and able register= >ake prediction as to what dissolves fastest

What they had found out. :o over the experiment and ask students using their mini W)*s to draw and label the diagrams. 2ecap on answers on interactive W). !emonstrate adding salt to water. weigh the salt and water before dissolving. Tell students the salt has not CdisappearedD. &sk if there is limit as to how much salt can dissolve and how does it manage to get dissolved. Tell students to write down that mass is conserved when solute is dissolved. Show video of sugar dissolving. &nswer "uestions using profiles on contact books. >atch keywords and definitions around the room and recap on answers. #upil acti&it1 Student discussion.

&dd practical activities to these. See highlighted sections above 6se rice and sand demo to dhow how substances dissolve 4them going the hole between the solute particles5. Talks about the kinetic model and how moving particles help dissolving. That is why changes dissolving temp. See me on >onday.
