Question/Problem Hypothesis Materials Method Observations Conclusion Evaluation Variables Bias Theory Law

Question/Problem
Problem: Know what is wrong with something, ask questions about it. What your hoping to achieve, something you can measure.

Question: Ask a question about something you want to observe.

Inference/Hypothesis

Inference: An inference is a conclusion to your observation. From what u observed you could infer what the problem really is.! Hypothesis: You translate your inference into an educated guess.!

Materials

Materials: The items needed for your experiment to be done.

Method/Experiment

Experiment: Come up with an experiment to test your hypothesis.

Observations

Observation: Gather data by recording your progress.

Conclusion

Conclusion: From what you gured out make a conclusion.

Evaluation

Evaluation: Things that could be done next time to improve your experiment.

Variables
Variables: The thing or things that change after or during an experiment.

Bias
Bias: Is something that will make your experiment unfair.

Theory
Theory: A theory in science is an explanatory statement that's been repeat key conrmed through experimental testing.! !

Law
Law: The law is a statement based on repeated experimental observations that describes some aspect.

Animal Camouage !

Problem: !
How does camouage effect vision?

Hypothesis: !
People would choose contrasting colour over the matching colour.

Materials: !
-Scissors! -1 a4 page of green paper! -1 a4 page of green paper cut in 1 inch squares ! -1 a4 page of brown paper cut in 1 inch squares!

Method:!
1. Cut one page of green and brown paper into one inch squares.! 2. Arrange the squares onto a piece of green paper.! 3. Give subjects 5 seconds to grab as many pieces of paper as they can. Limit subjects to picking up one piece at a time.! 4. Record how many green pieces and brown subject picks up.! 5. Tally the results. !

Conclusion: ! !

Lots of people picked the brown pieces of paper and not many people picked the brown piece of paper.!

Evaluation:!
We could try the experiment with more people and we could try different colours.

Eggsperiment

Problem:
How can I tell the difference between a cooked egg and a raw egg? !

Observation:
We tried to shaking the eggs sideways which kind of helped, we tried putting the eggs in the water but that didn't really make a difference. We are pretty sure we could tell which was the boiled by trying the shaking method. !

Hypothesis:!
Cooked egg will spin very well, while the raw will not spin as well.

Materials:!
-2 raw eggs ! -1 boiled egg!

Method:
1. Spin each of the eggs on a hard surface, observe and record the results.

Conclusion:
We gured out that because only 1 was cooked and only 1 was spinning.!

Evaluation:
We could repeat the experiment only mark the eggs beforehand or use more raw eggs.!

Water Balloon Toss!

Problem:
Will a balloon break in longer distances or shorter distances.!

Hypothesis:
The longer the distance between us the easier the ballon will break.!

Materials:
Several lled water balloons! A friend who doesn't mind getting wet! Old clothes!

Observation:
We started by 3 meters away for each other then tried throwing the ball 4 times around but it didn't pop but it only popped when it hit something hard which doesn't count. When we were 8 meters apart the balloon popped much faster and easier. We noticed that The balloon seems to pop whenever we were further apart. The balloon seems to pop whenever it's in mid air. We noticed that the texture of the balloons affected when it popped. We realised that each balloon has a different texture. Each colour has a different way of popping. The higher we throw, the easier it breaks. On our last balloon it slid onto the ground and because of friction the balloon popped.!

Method:
1. Pick up one balloon and stand facing your friend. ! 2. Toss the balloon. ! 3. After a successful catch, both of you take a step backwards.! 4. After your friend tosses the balloon back to you, each of you takes another step backwards. ! 5. Continue this process until the balloon breaks.! 6. See how far apart you can get until the balloon breaks.!

Conclusion:
When we were 8 meters apart the balloon seemed to pop the fastest and the easiest and our hypothesis was proven right.!

Theory:
The balloon kept on popping when we were further apart for each other and the higher we threw it, it would pop in mid-air.!

Variables:!
Different amounts of water in the ballon and different sizes of balloons.!

Cowsperiment

Problem:
If you put garlic in cows feed how much methane will it produce?!

Hypothesis:
It will help just a little bit but the cows might still produce methane.

Materials:
5 Cows! A lot of garlic! A machine that can see how much cows fart after eating garlic!

Method:
1. Get all 5 cows into a large tent.! 2. Feed each cow 25 pounds once a day, mix the feed with garlic, for 2 weeks.! 3. Take air samples from the large tent every 5 times a day. ! 4. Test the air samples for methane every 3 days.! 5. Collect data.!

Variables:!
Use a different kind of garlic.!

Deterg-periment!

Problem:
Which laundry detergent works best?

Hypothesis:
I think ______________ might work best.

Materials:
5 different kinds of laundry detergent! Mud! Ketch up! BBQ sauce! Grass! 20 different white fabrics! A container (that won't leak)!

Method:
1. Add a stain of mud onto 5 pieces of the fabric and label the fabrics as "mud"! 2. Put each of the fabric in separate containers. ! 3. Add water into the container.! 4. Add ONE kind of detergent into each of the 5 containers.! 5. Shake the containers for 10 minutes.! 6. Take out the fabrics and rate from 1-5 (1 is the worst, 2 is slightly dark satin remains, 3 is faint stain remains, 4 is very faint stain remains but mostly no stain and 5 is the best) based on how well each of the detergents removed the stain! 7. Repeat the steps from 1 to 6, but use different types of ingredients to make the stains and different pieces of fabric.! 8. Add up the rating score you gave each laundry detergent and the detergent with the highest rating score total is what works best.!
