AFSTI, established in 1957, is one of the largest professional bodies in the country with its varied membership numbering more than 3500 spread over 29 Chapters across the country. The association has successfully completed its golden jubilee in 2007 and is heading towards the diamond jubilee. The major objectives of the AFST (I) include application of advanced technology during production, processing, storage and distribution of food with an ultimate aim of strengthening the socio-economic status of farmers, entrepreneurs and rural artisan community. The AFST(I), as a storehouse of food professionals, is continuously working for the economic development of country through food technology and engineering. The Association brings out many technical publications including prestigious Journals: Journal of Food Science and Technology (JFST) and Indian Food Industry Mag (IFI Mag). The major activities of AFST(I) are to organize Indian Convention of Food Scientists and Technologists (ICFoST) every year and International Food Convention (IFCON) once in every five years. AFST(I) Education & Publication Trust: The AFST(I) Education & Publication Trust (AFSTI E&PT) was formed in 1988 as a sister organization of AFST(I). The office of the Trust is located at AFST (I) office CFTRI Campus Mysore. The main objective of the Trust is to stimulate research on various aspects of Food Science and Technology. The organization has made commendable progress in awarding yearly scholarships to merited students in the field of Food Science and Technology, from the interest accrued on its corpus fund. The Trust also supports scientists with financial grants for writing books and monographs in the field. AFST(I) Chapters: The Chapters of the Association are located at Amritsar, Bangalore, Bhopal, Calcutta, Chennai, Delhi, Erode, Hisar, Hyderabad, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Karnal, Kanchipuram, Kharagpur, Kollam, Ludhiana, Pondichery, Mumbai, Manipur, Nagpur, Pantnagar, Pune, Parbhani, Thanjavur, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur & Vallabh Vidyanagar.
CSIR-CFTRI, Mysore
Central Food Technological Research Institute(CFTRI), Mysore (a constituent laboratory of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi) came into existence during 1950 with the great vision of its founders, and a network of inspiring as well as dedicated scientists who had a fascination to pursue in-depth research and development in the areas of food science and technology. The focus of the Institute has been towards low-cost effective technologies, utilisation of indigenous raw materials, bio-friendly processes with emphasis on integrated technology and high level pursuit for total technology with underpinning of food safety, health and nutrition to all sections of the population. The Institute has geared up its R&D and impact of the globalisation has given very good dividends with a large number of externally funded projects from national and international agencies. The present scenario in the country is very vibrant with rising capital investment in food industry, which is expanding at a rapid pace in urban markets for processed foods, especially for the traditional foods through eco-friendly technologies. CFTRI is an ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 organisation and NABL accredited for chemical and biological testing of samples.
DRDO-DFRL, Mysore
The Defence Food Research Laboratory, (DFRL) was established in December, 1961 under the aegis of Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRD)), Ministry of Defence to cater to the strategic operational requirements of our Services and to provide logistical support to the Armed Forces in the area of food supplies. The R&D efforts at DFRL are aimed at designing of engineering light weight convenient, pack rations for Army, Navy, Air Force and other paramilitary forces which do not require any elaborate cooking or preparation at the consumers's end and remain shelf-stable under varying climatic conditions for periods ranging from 6 months to 1 year. DFRL also has products which are export worthy and amenable to working women. Owing to its singular dedicated contributions in processed foods, DFRL can be reckoned as the leader in convenience foods and packed ration developments in this country. Indigenous ingenuity is the hallmark of most of the technologies developed at DFRL.

The Conference Theme : AFST (I) along with CSIR-CFTRI, Mysore, DRDO-DFRL, Mysore and NIFTEM,
Kundli (Haryana) will be organizing the 7th International Food Convention (IFCON) with the theme NSuRE HEALTHY FOODS (Nutritional security through Sustainable Development, Research & Education for Healthy Foods). The conference is scheduled to be held during December 18 - 21, 2013 at CSIR- CFTRI campus, Mysore. th The 7 IFCON would have 21 sessions spanning across the days of conference and will have >1000 poster paper presentations from students, researchers and industries. The conference is expected to involve >100 Invited international delegates apart from an equal number of international participants, close to 100 industries (small, medium and large) from food and allied sectors, students from 40-50 educational institutions teaching food science & technology; and, about 2000 registered delegates from research, academic and policy making government bodies. The conference would also feature an exhibition along with a business-to-business area provided for a healthy interaction between the participants.

IFCON 2013
A total of 21 scientific sessions are planned during IFCON-2013, which include keynote presentations and lead papers by eminent persons with vast experience in their respective areas. The scientific presentations will be brought out in the form of a Souvenir which will be given to delegates at the time of registration.
The candidate can write as essay of not more than 3500 words lenght in double spacing on A4 size sheets with Times New Roman of 12 font size. Each entry should mention Name, Institution and course in which studying. The complete essay should be mailed to afsti.events@gmail.com before November 10, 2013. The prize winning essay(s) will be published in the Souvenir / IFI Mag based on the judges recommendations. 5) As an Industry / Food or Analytical equipments manufacturer / Education Institutions can be part of the Expo Food Expo: Unique opportunity for manufacturers to display their innovations in the area of food processing. Food Expo 2013 aims to bring the manufacturing industry and end users together for productive technology transfer. It also provides a platform for the manufacturing industry to understand the needs of institutional and individual users and vice versa. Aimed at strengthening the food processing sector in general. Food Expo 2013 provides a forum for technological and economic cooperation amongst particulars. Major sectors covered by Food Expo 2013 are dairy, fruits and vegetables, meat, marine, fish poultry and cereals, beverages, ice creams, confectionery, coffee / tea processing, ready - to -eat and ready-to-serve foods, Manufacturers and suppliers of Food processing equipment, Packaging systems, Refrigeration Technology and Quality & Hygienic Systems, Storage and handling systems, Exporters of food products, Research and Consultancy organizations, Specialized transportation systems, Marketing organizations, Financial institutions, Publishing houses etc., Each stall will 10 x 10 feet size and all basic amenities will be provided. How to reach Mysore & Venue: Mysore is easily accessible from New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai via
Bangalore by rail, road or air. Mysore is 140 Km away from Bangalore and can be reached by rail or road from Bangalore in two and a half to three hours. Venue of the conference (CSIR-CFTRI campus) is km from railway station & 4 km from bus stand.
The Weather: The weather will be pleasant and cool during December. Light woolen clothing should suffice in
making the stay of the delegates cosy and comfortable.
Mysore Sight Seeing: This historical kingdom of erstwhile Wodeyar dynasty boasts of many places of tourist
attractions, such as Palace, Chamundi Hill, Jaganmohan Palace Art Gallery, Brindavan Gardens, Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary and Tipu Sultans Palaces and gardens of Srirangapatna. The Wildlife Sanchuries at Bandipur, Nagarahole and Madumalai, architectual wonders of Hoysala Temples at Belur and Halebedu, magnificient monolithic statue of Bahubali at the Jain pilligrimage center of Shravanabelagola, coffee plantations of Coorg and tea plantations of Niligiries can be reached easily by road from Mysore.
