SCOPE the tolerances that are to be used in the design and manufactme of inch&& or This.stdarddual-dimensioned parts for John Deere Des Moines Works. Hard metric parts will be cove& in a sepamte standard. Tolerances applying fo a special design problem for which a design standard has been established (roller chain sprockets, splines, etc.) wilI be given in the design standard and will not be repea@d in tbis standard. The tolerances aiven in this standard are minimum tolerances and more liberal tolrrancs should be sceeiiied on drawing whenever wssible.
2.0
DJVINITIONS In this standard, tolerances are referred to by the terms general acd special. General toleratnzeaare the most prevalent tolerances applied to a drawing or a group of drawings. They are either p&ed on the drawing format or lined in a reference document. All other tolerances fall into the category termed special. Soecial tolerances most be shown on the drawioa.
3.0
APPLICATION OF TOLERANCES All dimnsions on product Engineering drawings shall have tolerances. This requirement can be met in 01lc of the foIlowing ways, in decreasing order of priority: a. as a tolerance added to the individual dimension, including form and positional tolerancirtg. b. as a requiremerit of a specification referenced on the drawing, excluding reference to a gemzal tolerance standard. Example: reference to hardware standards, sprocku standards, etc. c. as a general tolerance wte added to the body of the draw@, including notes refererring toleramze standa& such as JDN 200. Sections 4.1 through 4.8 of JDN 200 apply with no drawing oote reqdred. d. as a general tolerance shown in the title block. NOTE: Some old drawings have this information stamped adjaceot to the tide block. e. as a general tolerance as shown in JDS-GZ5 when referenced in the title block.

AU new drawings shall have a reference to JDN 200. Existing drawings shall have a lefermx to JDN 200 added when they are revised. It shall be the respon&iity of the design engineer to determine the allowable tolerances tbfUwill permit the most economical manufacture commensurate with part function. NOTE: Units shown in this standard are inch [mm].
GENERAL TOLERANCES These tolerances shall apply to all dimensions unless more specific taleare shown on tbs drawing.
4.1 Commercial Stock Size.5 Material stock tolerances are as referenced in John Deere Mverial Manual (JDM) or American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standards or American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) Manual. Standard hardware tolerances are as referenced in John Deere Parts Specificatinn (JDS) Manual.

4.2 Surface Finish 4.2.1 Machinedsurfam with dimensional tolerances up tn and inchding * .001[.025l shall have a maximum roughness height of 250 microinch [6.3 microme%r] AA unless o&wise specified. Machined surfaces with dimensional tolerances greater than f.001 [.O25]shaU have a maximum roughnew height of 500 microinch [12.5 microtir] AA unless cbrwise specified. 4.4 DIstortion Ihe rr&nmm permissible distortion due to punching, shearing, and bending opzratkns other than crossbreaks on sheet metal and bend &xsections shall be .06 [IS]. This petmksible distortion shall be in addition to the commercial form tolerances for steel as described in JDM, ASlM, and AISI manuals (Ref. 4.1). All parts with diitortion greater than .06 [1.5] shall be flattened in the distortion area with 0 drawing note reqdred. All parts for which limiting of distortion to .06 [l S] is unnecessary shall be noted thILp: Distortion Rrndssible or XX Maximum Distortion Petmissible. Thenote shall have a lea&r line to tbe distortion area, if appropriate. All parts requiring closer cona of flam or straighhless than commercial fotm toleramzs a&or distortion leas than .06 [1.5] shall be noted on the drawing. All distortion notes applying to a limited atea shall use a leader line to indicate the M mte applies. to which the
Distortion is permissible on all crossbreaks and bend intersections on sheet metal pans unless otherwise SQecified.

Holes through square and rectangular tubing may be out of per@icuiar with the tube wall by 1. providing that the spacing tolerance on the hole pattern is not exceeded.
4.8 Squarenessof Ends - Steel Bars, Plates, Structural Shapes and Tubs The following are minimum squareness tolerances for ends steel bars, plates, sf+ruuunI shapes, and tubes with length tolerances of f .06 [1.5] or greater. Parts requiring closer squareness tolerances will require special cutring pmcAures at &rcased cost. If closer squareness is required, squareness tolerances must be shown on the drawing.
