Question

If the VSWR is always on, what does it mean? Can you describe the Impact on the system and the reasons? It means only ANT1 have VSWR Alarm. Once the alarm is generated, the service carried by the TRX is totally interrupted. The reasons list as following:

The VSWR of the antenna system is too high. The connection between the output port of the TRX and the feeder is improper. The antenna system is not in connection for the DRFU. The DRFU is faulty. Data configuration in BSC is incorrect.

Basic Configuration Principles

The DRFU supports a maximum of two carriers and it is applicable to small- and middle-capacity scenarios;

The GRFU supports a maximum of six carriers and it is applicable to large-capacity scenarios.

The DRFU and GRFU can be configured in the same cabinet or cell to support flexible capacity expansion.

Wide coverage is preferred. The DRFU supports the PBT, TX diversity, and 4-way RX diversity mode. Therefore, the DRFU can be applied to wide-coverage scenarios.

Page77

Antenna Configuration Principles

One dual-polarized antenna can serve a maximum of two RFUs. By default, RX diversity is adopted on the GSM network. That is, two feeders connected to two single-polarized antennas or one dual-polarized antenna must be configured in a cell.

Each sector of the BTS must be configured with the minimum number of antennas.

For the 2-way RX diversity, each sector has two antenna channels; for the 4-way RX diversity, each sector has four antenna channels.

Page78

DRFU Configuration Principles

A single DRFU does not support the S1/1 application; however, three DRFUs support the S3/3 application

When the DRFU works in TX PBT, TX diversity, or 4-way RX diversity mode, a DRFU provides only one TRX.

When only DRFU are configured, One BTS3900A can support a maximum of 12 carriers in the maximum cell configuration of S4/4/4. A site configured with the BTS3900As can support a maximum of 36 carriers in the maximum cell configuration of S12/12/12

Dynamic PBT

Dynamic PBT is a mode based on the operation of timeslots, compared with static PBT, it brings the balance between capacity and coverage and does not cause the 50% decrease of capacity The subscriber occupies a TS under the detection of measure report. When the quality is lower than a threshold, the same No. of TS of the adjacent TRX will be used as the secondary TS by the subscriber to start PBT. (The former subscriber in the secondary TS will handover) When the quality is higher than a threshold, the PBT will be canceled and the secondary TS will be released

Question

When configuring Transmit Mode, Transmit Independency or Combining can be chosen. How can we know whether Transmit Independency or Transmit Combining is used?

It will be decided by antenna mode. When 2 TRXs are used in one DRFU,

If the antenna mode is Single antenna or Double antenna(1TX), the transmit mode must be Transmit Independency

If the antenna mode is Double antenna(2TX), the transmit mode must be Transmit Combining

The chain topology applies to sparsely populated areas in striplike terrain, such as areas along highways and railway tracks

BTS Ring Topology

The ring topology applies to common scenarios. Due to its strong self-healing capability, the ring topology is preferred if permitted by the routing If there is a breaking point in the ring, the ring breaks into two chains at the breaking point automatically. In this way, the BTSs preceding and following the breaking point can work normally despite the breaking point; thus improving the robustness of the system

Introduction of GRFU

GRFU is based on multi-carrier technology, one GRFU can support six TRXs at most.

GRFU performs modulation and demodulation between baseband signals and RF signals, processes data, and combines and divides signals.

The main new features and functions of GRFU

Inner Bias-Tee Integration of feeder current to TMA. Provides power sharing. Improves the network coverage, reduces the interference and power consumption and save the device cost.

Multi-carrier Technology

The principle of multi-carrier technology: multiple carriers share one power amplifier and one RF channel. Baseband pool replaced independent baseband unit. Improve the integration. Digital IF combination replaced Analog RF combination. There isnt combination loss.

Limitation of GRFU

If the frequency interval of a cell is outside the range of 15MHz, 2 GRFUs can be considered to be used and the range of frequency for each GRFU also should be within15MHz. Generally, it is suggested that the number of carriers should be set to 2 GRFUs averagely if 2 GRFUs are used in a cell. For example: S8 should be configured as 4+4 when 2 GRFU are used. GRFU supports whole frequency band of PGSM 900MHz, high 45MHz frequency band and low 45MHz frequency band of DCS1800MHz.

Configuration Principle of GRFU

The DRFU and GRFU can be configured in the same cabinet. When the GRFU is configured, a single BTS3900A provides a maximumof 36 carriers with the maximum cell configuration of S12/12/12. In addition, a site configured with the BTS3900As can support a maximum of 72 carriers, with the maximum cell configuration of S24/24/24.

One GRFU does not serve two cells. Each cell with a single antenna can be configured with a maximum of two GRFUs.
