A vintage inspired heirloom baby set featuring Canopy Fingering by the Fibre Company

YARN: The Fibre Company Canopy Fingering (50% baby alpaca, 30% merino, 20% viscose from bamboo; 200yards/50gm skein): blue crown, 3 skeins. GAUGE: 32 sts = 4 in Lace Pattern after blocking. NEEDLES: 1 - 16 or 24 US 1.5 (2.5 mm) circs and set dpns. SIZE: 0-3 months (18 chest circ.), 6-9 months (20 chest circ). NOTIONS: 10 stitch markers, one unique, tapestry needle, 2 yards 3/8 wide ribbon in a color to match. 6 - 1/8 inch buttons. NECESSARY SKILLS: Knitting, purling increasing, decreasing, reading lace from charts.

Work even in lace patt for 5 (6) inches, ending after knitting a row 6 or 12 of the chart. Knit 8 rows in garter stitch. Bind off. SLEEVES: Using DPNs, place the 48 (56) sleeve stitches evenly on 3 of the dpns and with 4th pick up 8sts from the cast on stitches. Join, working in the round in lace patt, working the outlined repeat ONLY, beginning with Row 1. Work lace pattern for 4 (4.5) inches, or to desired length. Work 8 rows in garter and bind off. Repeat for second sleeve. FINISHING: Graft undrarm seams, attach buttons opposite buttonholes and weave in ends. Block lightly

BONNET: CO 89 (97) sts. Knit 8 rows. Work in Lace pattern 5 (6) times, ending after row 11 of final repeat. CROWN: Using cabled cast-on method, cast on 11 (13) sts to LH needle and join piece for working in the round placing unique marker to show the beg of the round. Rnd 1: *K10 (11) sts, pm; repeat from * around. Rnd 2. *Knit to 2 sts before m, k2tog, slm; repeat from * around. Repeat Rnd 2 until 10 sts remain. Cut yarn leaving an 8 inch tail and weave through remaining stitches. NECK EDGE: Along edge of bonnet pick up and knit 74 (90) sts. Knit 8 rows (4 garter ridges). Bind off loosely. FINISHING: Weave in ends and block lightly. Attach ribbon to corners of bonnet edging, leaving 10" or so of tail for ties.
