Second Regional Consultation on Compulsory Centres for Drug Users (CCDUs) in Asia and the Pacific

Guidance for Country Presentations


The purpose of the country presentation is to: 1. Review the progress made in your country on the implementation of the recommendations detailed in the Report of the Regional Consultation on Compulsory Centres for Drug Users (CCDUs) in Asia and the Pacific 2. Update the current situation of CCDUs in your country in terms of recent developments, future anticipations and challenges For your convenience a series of PowerPoint slides has been prepared for your use with the following suggested content: Slides 1-2 Slide 3 Slides 4-8 Update on Compulsory Centres for Drug Users (CCDUs) Total number of CCDUs Total number of people in CCDUs (break down by gender) and the general capacity of CCDUs (beds for men, women and children- if applicable) drawing on information from the Questionnaire Average length of stay of each person in a compulsory centre in months and/or years Types of Drugs Types of drugs most frequently associated with admission to CCDUs/ main drugs for treatment demand Implementation of the recommendations detailed in the Report of the Regional Consultation on Compulsory Centres for Drug Users in Asia and the Pacific and other related efforts. (Please refer to page 3, para 10 of the attached meeting report.)

Progress of implementation on: 1. Promoting public awareness about the nature of drug dependence and the need for public health responses; 2. Increasing multisectoral coordinated action among law enforcement, health, judiciary, drug control and other relevant sectors, as well as with affected communities; 3. Improving data collection and monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of CCDUs from both a public health and public security perspective; 4. Advocating for greater financial and human resources as well as capacity building for evidenceinformed, community-based drug dependence treatment services, including the development of effective responses to amphetamine-type stimulants (ATS) and inhalants; 5. Addressing stigma and discrimination and legal and policy barriers to universal access to prevention, care, treatment and support for drug users affected by HIV/AIDS.
