COMPANY OVERVIEW
Ethiopian Airlines is the flag carrier of the country and has become one of the continents leading carriers, turning a profit for almost all sixty-five years of its existence. The first scheduled flight of Ethiopian Airlines took place to Cairo, April 8, 1946, and its first jet service was inaugurated January 15, 1963. The company initially attracted world attention when it set a new world distance record for a commercial twin-engine jet on June 1, 1984, with a Boeing 767 landing at the Bole location after a 13.5 hour flight from New York. Ethiopian Airlines announced, in 2005, that it would be Africas Launch carrier for the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which was celebrated with its debut landing on December 11, 2011. Company vision: to become the most competitive and leading aviation group in Africa by providing safe, market driven and customer focused passenger and cargo transport, aviation training, flight catering, MRO and ground services by 2025. Ethiopian Airlines will not only be the first airline outside of Japan to own the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner, but they will own 10. Over the past seven years the airline has multiplied by five times, and plans to continue this growth and operate 120 airplanes by 2025.
