READ THE FOLLOWING TEXT CAREFULLY:
Celia
I left school only two months after my birthday. It was the end of the summer term and I had always
wanted to have a job and money of my own. I didn't bother much about schoolwork or getting high
qualifications. Anyway, when I started to look for a job, I found out it wasn't as easy as I'd imagined.
I got a job in a baker's but I got fed up with that because the pay was low. Now I'm working in a
frozen chicken factory. It's not very exciting but we have a lot of laughs and pay isn't bad.
Mike
I left school when I was sixteen and went to work in a garage. Every Tuesday I go to college to learn
about technical engineering. The work I do there helps me at the garage, and the practical
experience I get at the garage helps me at college. I'm getting so interested in engineering that
I might leave the garage after a few years and do higher training. I'm interested in aeronautical
engineering, but at the moment I'm content to take cars to pieces.
Geraldine
Most people think I'm crazy because I'm training to be a dancer. I've always been good at dance and
gymnastics but I didn't decide to go in for full-time until I was nearly sixteen, which is rather late. By
that time, I was heading for an academic career, but I realised increasingly that I wanted to go on the
stage. The training that I'm doing involves a lot of acting and mime as well as classical and modern
dance. It's a marvellous life. Though it's extremely hard too. Dancing is very competitive. From the
moment we leave college it's a race to get the best job. However, at the end of this course, Ill be
qualified to teach as well as dance. So if I can't get a job as a dancer, at least I'll be able to earn a
living.
