EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The study was conducted in Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), Chennai, which is the subsidiary of YUM Restaurants India Private Limited. The fast food industry is rapidly growing in India. YUM Restaurants was established in 2002 (by renaming Tricon company), which owns KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell. YUM Restaurants India became a separately reported division in 2012, underscoring the potential scale of India as a key emerging market. YUM is a Private Limited Company headquartered in United States. The Indian Head Office is at Gurgaon, Haryana, and the study was conducted in Tamil Nadu Division. Presently, the company has 495 restaurants in India which include, 228 KFCs, 264 Pizza Huts, and 3 Taco Bell restaurants. The major objective of this study is to analyse the functioning of various departments. The fast food industry encompasses a broad range of organizations that deal with the fast food restaurants. During the past five years, the Global Fast Food Restaurants industry has expanded despite changing consumer tastes and a struggling economy. However, the industry experienced steady and growing demand from emerging economies, which boosted the industry's overall performance. Over the five years up to 2012, industry revenue had a growth at an annual rate of 2.2% to $499.5 billion. Currently, market growth is largely fuelled by the rising young population, working women, hectic schedules, and increasing disposable income of the middleclass households. The major competitor of KFC in India is McDonalds. Apart from McDonalds, the company faces stiff competition from Chicking, Dominoes, Subway, Pizza Hut, etc. There are various departments for the smooth functioning of the organization, which includes Human Resource Department, Marketing Department, Finance Department, Supply Chain Department, Quality Control Department, and the Information Technology Department. The major strengths of the company are its efficient, organized and systematic management team and the brand name of KFC. From the study it can be found that the company has to make measures to overcome its weaknesses and try to exploit its opportunities for future development. The company has not explored all the areas and segments in the Indian market. In India the major part of the population is youth. The company has opportunities for its growth by concentrating on the youth and also by product diversification
