App Lesson Plan Lesson Plan Title: Reading with Chicka Chicka Boom Boom II.

Objectives Students Will Be Able To: Predictions and story essentials by having a class discussion. Recognize letter of the alphabets during the story by partaking in a read aloud and using Ipad apps Create an art project based on the book Follow a step-by-step instructions Understand the meaning of the book III. Georgia Common Core Standards ELACCKW1: Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose opinion pieces in which they tell a reader the topic or the name of the book they are writing about and state an opinion or preference about the topic or book (e.g., My favorite book is). ELACCKRL1: With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about key details in a text. ELACCKRL10: Actively engage in group reading activities with purpose and understanding. ELACCKRF1: Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print.
d. Recognize and name all upper- and lowercase letters of the alphabet.

IV. Learning Resources and Materials Needed 1. The book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. 2. Cut out letters, sponges, finger paint 3. Pencils/Writing Utensils 4. Ipads for students V. Teacher Procedure/Lesson Development a. Introduction 1. Before the teacher presents the book he/she will ask the students what they know about the alphabet. (letters make sounds and letters make words) 2. The teacher will share the letter of the week and lead a discussion on what words begin with the letter R 3. The teacher will then will write students responses on the board 4. Then the teacher will discuss what the assignment will contain and tell them that they need to pay attention to the story in order to complete the assignment given b. Methods/Procedures (Lesson Development)

1. The teacher will review the class procedures for read-aloud time 2. The teacher will introduce the book i.e. author and illustrator. I have a great book I would like to read to the class. The teacher will use a digital copy of the book to display under the docuviewer so that the students can view the book as she reads. 3. The teacher will go over each illustration without the text so the students can make predictions on what might happen in the story (What do you see on the cover?) 4. The teacher will then read the story to them out loud, stopping and discussing the book after every other page 5. When the teacher is finished reading the story, he/she will ask the students to describe the book. What did they see? Did you like the book? 6. The teacher will release the students back to their desks 7. The teacher will instruct the students to an art project about the book 8. Show the pre-made art project to model what they are going to be making 9. Start off with blue construction paper 10. Then cut out the brown tree trunk from the brown construction paper and paste it to the construction paper 11. Then cut out green leaves and paste them on the top of their trunk 12. There will be cut outs of letters made of sponge on the reading table. Instruct students to meet the teacher at the reading table to sponge paint their letters on their tree. 13. Make sure that students sponge paint the letter R (the letter of the week) on their paper 14. As students are sponge painting make sure to go over letter sounds. If they pick up the letter K ask them what sound does the K made? 15. Allow students to be creative 16. As students finish, have them explain their art project to recap on the book. 17. The students will now engage in center activities. 18. At the teacher station, 5 students will use Ipads. 19. The students will be given Ipads that are on the app ABC Reading Writing Practice. For recognition, the teacher will call out a letter and the students will locate that letter in lower or uppercase and use their finger to form the letter according to the arrows. They will do the letters that are included in this lessons read aloud. 20. The students Ipads will be set to the app ABC Zoo. On this app,, the students will free hand write the alphabet. As they do so they will take turns saying aloud the alphabets they have written as the teacher called them out. As assessment, the teacher will give each student 3 letters to write, show, and name aloud. 21. The app Howie Hungry Monster: Build Words will be opened on the students Ipads. The teacher will demonstrate how the app works. The students will use the letters of the alphabet to build words by using the monster to catch the letters for them. The words will vocabulary/spelling/sight words that the students have already studied. Once the students have a formed a word, they signal the teacher and say their word aloud. 22. After each student has formed at least three words, the students will be allowed to use the app Learn ABCs: Its Munch Time to do a sing along about letters and the ABCS.

1. Cooperative group and direct teaching will be used in this lesson plan 2. The teacher will show the students through the text by persuading students to ask questions at the end of the story 3. The teacher will use shared reading and reading response journals for efficient reading approaches 4. Guided Practicethe teacher will stroll around the classroom while the students are doing their art project and listening to the book 5. Independent PracticeListening to the book aloud, listening to the book on tape, and the art project 6. Modeling- the teacher will share with them an example 7. Facilitating the teacher will observe the work, assist as required and make sure students are listening to the book 8. Closure To end the lesson the teacher will evaluate the story by asking the students questions about the book c. Accommodations/Adaptations For students with a hearing disability: the teacher will give them a hearing aid and the teacher wears a microphone during instructions If a paraprofessional is available, he/she will work with the student with special needs oneon-one while the teacher carries on with the lesson VI. Describe the Methods of Assessment and Evaluation utilized The teachers assessments will match the objectives through the use of the students answers and observation.
