When a pile testes) is requested by the Owner/Engineer, the test pile(s) shall be constructed before the
commencement of the main piling works in a lnanner similar to that for the construction of the working
piles. Test piles shall not be incorporated into the final works.
The test pile shall be deemed to comply with its specified ultimate load when, after the load is held for at
least 30 minutes, the following criteria are satisfied:
(i) The displacement at the head of the pile is less than 25 mm or
(ii) The lnovement of the head of the pile shall be slowing down and less than 0.25 mm/hr
(iii) the displacement at the head of the pile after all load is removed (after 10 minutes) is less than 10
mm.
6.6.16 Integrity Testing
Integrity tests using the acoustic pulse echo method shall be undertaken by a specialist subcontractor
appointed by the Contractor, but subject to the agreement of the Owner/Engineer, on all drilled shaft,
piled and where applicable side bearing foundations. The actual method of performing the tests and
interpreting the results shall be subject to the Owner/Engineer's approval. This is a Hold Point.
The Contractor shall give the Owner/Engineer the requisite period of notice prior to undertaking the tests.
This is a Notification Point.
The results of the integrity testing shall be made available to the Owner/Engineer upon request.
6.6.17 Earth Resistance Tests
Earth electrical resistance tests shall be undertaken at each support soon after foundation installation. The
Contractor shall give the Owner/Engineer the requisite period of notice prior to undertaking the tests. This
is a Notification Point.
On sites subject to seasonal variations in the rainfall or the level of the water table and sites requiring
special eatihing arrangements, additional earth resistance tests shall be carried out at intervals to establish
the effects on the resistance of such seasonal variations.
The method of measurement and equiplnent to be used shall be subject to the approval of the
Owner/Engineer. This is a Hold Point.
The results of the earth resistance tests both initial and final, 1.e. after additional earthing has been
installed, shall be to the Owner/Engineer.
6.6.18 Protective Coatings
When protective coatings are applied to buried support steelwork or to exposed concrete surfaces,
appropriate routine tests to demonstrate the quality of application shall be undeliaken.
The Contractor shall submit to the Owner/Engineer his routine test proposals. This is a Hold Point.
The Contractor shall give the Owner/Engineer the requisite period of notice prior to undertaking the tests.
This is a Notification Point. The results of the tests shall be made available to the Owner/Engineer upon
request.
