New Years Eve Candlelight Worship Service

Individuals needed for: Scripture Reader, 3 Readers, Thanksgiving Prayer, Healing Prayer, Peace Prayer, and Communion Prayer

Scripture Reading Praise the LORD, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagles. (Psalm 103:1-5 NIV) Congregational Hymn: Count Your Blessings Minister: Let us pause a moment in reflection and thank the Lord for His many blessing through this past year. This is a time the congregation is welcome to share something they were most thankful for this past year. Congregation: Call our things they have been thankful for this past year. Thanksgiving Prayer (Include: numerous blessings, protection, safety, health, provision, leaders, freedom, peace, salvation, children, youth, elderly, future of the church, ect)

Reader 1: As we reminisce on this past year, many of us can share moments of sorrow, times of laughter, seasons of prosperity or times of hardship. God has availed to us the power of His presence during each season. We praise His name! Scripture Reading There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, (Ecclesiastes 3:1-3) Congregational Hymn: Because He Lives Reader 2: There is no power under heaven that will prevent us from taking comfort and refuge in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is our Rock and our Salvation, and we can trust in Him. During our moments of pain and healing, He has been there. While we were facing financial or difficult circumstance, He was there. When we felt all alone with no friend to confide in, He was there. He was our friend, our comforter, our keeper, our sustainer and our Rock. We wept as He comforted, we laughed as He smiled. We mourned, and He spread His arms of love around us. Scripture Reading There is a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, (Ecclesiastes 3:4-7a) Congregation: God Will Take Care of You Prayer for Healing (Include unstable marriages, broken homes, stressed children, rebellious youth, our nation, the hungry & poor, local church, church community, sinners, sick, shut-in, hospital, nursing homes, addictions, ect) Reader 3: There were times when words were not adequate for the moment. There came the time when love was deep and hate was forgotten; the words that were spoken were forgiven and love took hold. Faith was placed in the One who holds every tomorrow.

Soloist: Many Things about Tomorrow Scripture Reading: There is a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. (Ecclesiastes 3:7b-8) Prayer for Peace (Among our nation, church board members, individual committees, each other, our neighbors, relatives, overseas, peace among leaders and countries where missionaries are serving, peace with God, in our families, and with ourselves, ect) Congregational Hymn: It is Well with My Soul Communion Prayer (Include prayer of repentance prior to communion and a moment of silence) Communion Solo This is My Body sing as people are served communion or prior to communioncontinue to play this song softly until communion is completed. Communion: Breaking of bread and grape juice or wine Lighting of the New Year Candles: The ministers will light their candles and, in turn, light the ushers candles. The ushers will move down the two side aisles lighting the small candles of the first person on each pew. Each worshipper will then turn and light the candle of the person seated next to them. After all candles are lit, all will stand and sing "Bless Be the Ties That Bind." Closing prayer and blowing out candles before exiting, Optional (Congregation is instructed to remain up front after serving themselves in communion. Lighting of the candles is done at this time. All blow out after the closing song, and hold hands in a closing prayer.) *All participants should have their own copy of this service.
