I am one who steers very clear of tinfoil hat conspiracy theories. I often believe progressives plant stories in order to distract and disrupt, enabling them to pursue their true goals and objectives. Thats why I stress the importance of staying focused on the modern liberal socialist policies of the Obama administration, not the sideshow antics. However, as a former combat commander, I have been trained to look for trends. And I believe weve found a very disturbing one. it seems that back
If Obama doesnt have Israels back, why do American Jews have Obamas?

door gun control is in full effect in the United States. Why? Thanks to Obamas Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), we can no longer smelt lead from ore (http://www.nraila.org/newsissues/articles/2013/10/end-of-an-eralast-us-lead-smelter-to-close-indecember.aspx)in the United States. The first contact the EPA made with The Doe Run Lead Smelter in Herculaneum, Missouri (population 2,800) was in 2008 but it was in 2010 that the EPA finally forced Doe Run to plan a shut down. This plant has been in operation since 1892 but will finally close its doors this month. It was the last lead smelting plant in the US. The closedown is due to new extremely tight air quality restrictions placed on this specific plant. President Obama and his EPA raised the regulations by 10 fold and it would have cost the plant $100 million to comply. In response to the Doe Run lead smelter shutdown, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said the Doe Run Company made a business decision to shut down the smelter instead of installing pollution control technologies needed to reduce sulfur dioxide and lead emissions as required by the Clean Air Act. Of course this is why we need serious regulatory reform that precludes executive agency fiat, especially regulation implementation that exceeds a certain adverse financial impact to a private sector business. Of course the canned progressive socialist response is For years families with children near Doe Runs facilities have been exposed to unacceptable levels of lead, one of the most dangerous neurotoxins in the environment, said Cynthia Giles, assistant administrator for the EPAs Office of Compliance and Enforcement Assurance. There are a few auxiliary lead processing plants remaining in the USA but their function is to re-claim lead from old batteries. What this all means is that after December 2013, any ammunition that will be available to US citizens will have to be imported, which will surely increase the price and possibly come under government control. It seems this is fully in concert with the US Military and Homeland Defense recent purchase of large quantities of ammunition. As Terresa Monroe Hamilton wrote on Noisy.net (http://noisyroom.net/blog/2013/10/29/back-door-gun-control-movesforward/)

The effect is chilling: you can own all the guns you want, but if you cant get ammo, you are out of luck. Remember when President Obama promised his minions that he was working on gun control behind the scenes? Welcome to it. The result is that all domestically mined lead ore will have to be shipped overseas, refined and then shipped back to the US. Not only will ammo be even harder to come by, the demand and the process of supply will cause the price to skyrocket even more. And ponder this, there is an excellent chance that Obama will rig the market to where all ammo has to be purchased from the government instituting an ammo registration. There hasnt been a peep about this in the major news outlets, but its done. With the US no longer producing lead, all supplies will now have to come from China, Australia or Peru, with the overwhelming emphasis on China. China is the largest miner of lead and the largest importer of scrap lead in the world. The highly progressive state of California recently passed a law that lead ammo is banned for sporting use. There is an alternative, copper ammo, but it is hugely expensive to make, and pure copper bullets are frequently labeled cop killers so they cant be sold. So America, back door gun control is moving forward and while we are all distracted with Obamacare and Iran nuclear negotiations, our Second Amendment rights are undergoing an assault by clandestine infiltration. Remember we reported on this website the gun registration actions being undertaken in Washington DC. Barack Obama and his progressive socialist acolytes are quite savvy at political chess. He is seeking to outflank, envelope, and destroy the Second Amendment. Now its our move in 2014.

Mr. West, here are two more pieces to the puzzle; I do agree that Obama and his minions will do anything to control firearms in the citizenry, but these sources of info are interesting to say the least. http://www.mineralseducationco... http://www.miningandmetallurgy... Canada can find a way to mine, refine, and export lead to the US, but we cannot with our unlimited technology do the same? Hmmmmmm, does make one wonder.

Yes, you valiant hillbillies will turn back the onslaught of the Tyrannical Obama-con forces with your semi automatic rifles and tech-9s; each bullet expertly taking out a single Amram tank or F35 jet.

Poor chicken...not even using a real name. I wont bother explaining how easy it is to stop a jet or tank. I am quiet frankly disappointed in the insurgents who are having trouble stopping them. sheesh.

Na, just you... The tanks and planes will be on our side. Unless of course you can picture the military flocking to Obamas cause to kill their own families... I can't. To be sure though, i have no plans on wasting ammo on people like you, i plan to nail your traitorous self to a cross along side the interstate, and leave you there as a warning to others. If the day you ever gleefully await ever comes, you will find yourself there. With a lot of company.

Funny how those who do not support Mr. West are here to put in their two cents? Strange? It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the commie in chief is a gun control freak so I believe that backdoor control is coming if not already here, just like his comments on single payer health care system it will take time to implement, maybe years but it will be done.

Except you don't need lead. I for one don't mind using solid copper. IF you had a CLUE you'd know the DOD started going away from lead core bullets in the mid 90's due to EPA and their own research. But hey, don't let facts, paranoia of even potentially your own bias get in the way of facts.

Wow, Allen West is usually spot on. He's way off on this one though. Ammo manufacturers use 97 to 100% scrap lead for bullets. This will have zero impact on ammo supply. (Look it up for yourselves) Car battery makers may be in trouble though.

In a word: Density. The purpose of the lead in a projectile is twofold. It economically adds great density to the projectile, increasing its mass and thus its energy on the target. Additionally, it is malleable and has excellent expansion properties at a highly economical cost.

You dorks realize every major ammunition manufacturer in America has stated this has no impact on them right? Like always, Allen West is lying. In 2013, he has yet to write an article where he wasn't willfully dishonest.

".. realize every major ammunition manufacturer in America has stated this has no impact on them right?.." no i didn't, how about a link to any article that says that. In the interim I'll just look at the cost of shells at any local sporting goods place and see if your claim holds water... i mean if it has no impact the cost shouldn't be impacted...right?

One company, Sierra bullets has said it won't effect them because all they use is recycled lead. But they are a small specialty company in comparison to the big boys and they aren't looking very far ahead. Its all about supply and demand. Sure there has been plenty of recycled lead to use because there has also been primary lead available. Once the supply is reduced, (no more primary lead) the only lead available will be recycled lead. So if your still following along, what's going to happen when the supply is reduced and the demand stays the same? The only way lead would not go up is if Doe Run didn't sell any of the primary lead from the smelter now and it was excess (If that were the case they would already be out of business). Or if suddenly the demand for lead decreased next year (highly unlikely).

This is a post from one ammo manufacture by the name of Seira (sorry if I misspelled it) of which I have never seen a box of their ammo in my life. This is hardly the proof Strange1 was looking for. I most often do not trust what I see on the internet, it is too easily faked and I put this into that category. I do trust Allen West.

A quick look on the web at their website, it looks like they are a reloading supplier. I do not reload, but with the price of ammo already double or more of what it was a year or two ago I may just have too.

By forcing all lead production overseas it also potentially puts bullets under the reach of international controls (treaties and "laws") which could control, restrict, or prevent sales in all manner of ways. A good analogy is the European Union restriction against any of their products being used for capital punishment; which in turn has impacted the ability of many states to carry out death penalty sentencing. Without a domestic lead supply our citizens can be placed under the restrictive thumb of foreign controls with the stroke of a pen. Likewise, opponents of 2nd Amendment freedoms in our own country can continually look for ways to shut-down or restrict the flow of lead for domestic consumption through treaties or laws that are not fully vetted or even intended to affect the American populace (at least on face value).

I sent this to my two senators and congressman. Please provide me with the dates of all hearings on the closure of the lead smelting plant in Herculaneum, Mo called Doe Run Company and the impact it will have on our national security due to a 2008 change in NAAQS. Please provide me with impact statements on how the unconstitutional EPA can force something that impacts on our national defense. Isnt our national defense the priority of the House, Senate, and all agencies, departments and programs of our government? So where is the study on this? I suggest you read an article by James Talent A Constitutional Basis for Defense http://www.heritage.org/resear... In brief it states: Providing for the Common Defense In brief, the Constitution says three things about the responsibility of the federal government for the national defense.

Thank Sec. John "Swiftboat" Kerry for the nail in the coffin for our 2nd Amendment rights. He signed the UN Arms Trade Treaty that in Article 6 loosely defines a ban on transfers/sales of ammunition that could be used for war crimes/mass murder. If we now are forbidden by the king of America from making ammunition, some crackpot can now easily prevent ammunition exporters from selling to Americans. And so it begins.

Got it, Reagan, both Bush's, McCain, and Romney all pushing assault weapons bans and fake wars didn't hurt our rights, it was all Kerry. Seriously, you people are as full of crap as any liberal sewing circle.

Reagan never pushed an AW ban. He was totally pro-gun. Even after being shot by Hinkley he said eh would not go along with any schemes by the DemoncRATicks (evil, bloodsucking vermin) to disarm the American public. GHW Bush never pushed an AW Ban. "W" Bush never pushed an AW Ban. Only Willie Clinton, and the left, putsched this, and it was summarily dismissed under "W" Bush. So perhaps "S" should be "FoS"?

Tens of thousands dead does not a fake war make. If you happened to actually read the article spawning this comment stream, it's about ammunition and regulatory overreach not weapons bans. Happy Monday, S-head.

This is such BS. They should be allowed an extension to determine if their new process will work. Then a transition to the new technology and finally, shutdown of the old plant/process. Since fines and criminal charges are attached to this regulation, isn't this law illegal? Constitutionally, aren't laws supposed to source from congress and not un-elected government workers? Also, since this is a forced change of private property use, wouldn't the Feds have to compensate the owners?

The congress tasked the EPA with this, and allowed them the privilege of making the rules & regs. Congress is responsible for ceding away their prerogative under
the rules & regs. Congress is responsible for ceding away their prerogative under the mantra that it was much too complicated for those writing laws to understand, and that there wasn't enough time in any congressional session to craft into law all the things necessary to make this law come to fruition. So, we can blame Bary Soetoro & his minions, but this is congress fault for ceding their power to an entity rather than making them come to the congress to have to craft other legislation. Since, a fine is a tax, then every time we are fined for speeding, or whatever, we should declare it a paid tax, and ask for a refund on our tax returns.

In a combat type scenario you would go through a lot of ammo real quick. If all you got is a couple hundred rounds for home defense against thief's that's fine for that but in combat that 200 rounds of ammo is gonna go quick. I guess something is better than nothing but if this causes the price of ammo to go way up then good luck stocking up. Then we have that stupid UN treaty all these countries are signing on with. Regulation of ammo sells is just around the corner if not already here. I think the government has already made itself clear with all these massive ammo purchases lately. They are buying ammo that is banned in combat if that tells you anything. The writing is on the wall.
