Short Course on

It is wise to take time and effort to organize an experiment properly to ensure that the right type of data is available to answer the questions of interest. The objective of Experimental Data Analysis course is to provide foundations on experimental designs and also on statistical analysis of data obtained from laboratory and industrial processes.

Objectives of Hypothesis Testing

Be able to describe fundamental principles of hypothesis testing such as type of tails and p-value Be able to perform appropriate test in different situations Be able to interpret the results and making decision Be able to better understand analysis and results presented in research reports and journal articles

THE IMPORTANCE OF STATISTICAL EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN

An experiment deliberately imposes a treatment on a group of objects or subjects in the interest of observing the response. This differs from an observational study, which involves collecting and analyzing data without changing existing conditions. Because the validity of an experiment is directly affected by its construction and execution, attention to experimental design is extremely important A major disadvantage of frequently used 1-factorat-a-time approach is that it fails to consider possible interaction between factors. A fractional factorial experiment is a solution to this problem, good information can still be obtained with time and resource minimized.

Facilitators
Dr Zainudin Arsad has successfully conducted more than 55 short courses in 2009-2012 period. He is a senior lecturer, obtaining his BSc. in 1994 and PhD. in 2002 from the Dept. of Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics, Heriot-Watt University, UK. His areas of research are Time Series Analysis and Econometric Modeling with main topic of interest in the Applications of Kalman Filter Technique in Financial Issues. Dr. Nuzlinda Abdul Rahman obtained her MSc from USM Penang in 2002 and PhD from UKM Bangi in 2008. Her main research area is Spatial Statistics, particularly in its application to Infant Mortality and Crime Rates in Malaysia.
