Lubricants for Conveyor Systems

Introduction
Klber Lubrication has developed special high-temperature lubricants for conveyor systems which provide excellent lubricating properties, even at temperatures* from 160 to 250 C, and maximum operating reliability whilst cutting maintenance expenses. Klber offers paint-friendly lubricants and can furnish references from all reknown car makers and many paint manufacturers. Klber Lubrication not only sells lubricants but offers a Lubrication Engineering Service for conveyor systems which examines, for example, the condition of the lubricant in dismantled load rollers and determines the remaining quantity of lubricant as well as the texture of the used lubricant. Depending on the results of such examinations, we determine the correct lubricant, the necessary quantity and the relubrication intervals. This Lubrication Engineering Service ensures high operating reliability and low maintenance expenses for your conveyor systems.

The grease should be filled directly into the bearing free space with the initial lubrication. We recommend filling the load rollers completely with Klberplex

BE 31-502 if they are exposed to aqueous media and temperatures* are under 130 C. This improves the sealing effect and provides good protection against corrosion.

Relubrication Relubrication intervals The diagram Figure 4 shows guideline values for relubrication intervals with the load rollers of Power chains, which are lubricated with BARRIERTA. They apply to conveyor systems whose cooling length is at least 4 times as long as the oven length and to 4 load rollers with cages. With full ball load rollers, the relubrication intervals are shorter. The appropriate values also apply to load rollers on Free trolleys. Whether and when the load rollers have to be relubricated, can also be determined by the Lubrication Engineering Service of Klber, see page 4 Introduction. Determination of relubrication quantities While there are guideline values for the quantities required for initial lubrication, those for relubrication must be determined by trial: 1. Fill a few load rollers with a defined quantity of lubricant. 2. The load rollers must make at least one conveyor circuit. BARRIERTA L 55/2

Initial Lubrication / Relubrication Lubricant Selection Temperature* below 140 C up to 220 C up to 260 C Initial Lubrication Klberplex BE 31-502 Klbersynth BH 72-422 BARRIERTA L 55/3 Relubrication Klberplex BE 31-222 Klbersynth BH 72-422 BARRIERTA L 55/2 The quantities required for the lubrication of turn rollers in circular conveyors can be determined by trial. With turn rollers (without grease nipple) used at ambient temperatures* of 150 to 250 C, we suggest the following relubrication procedure: 1. Remove the turn rollers after 1000 to 2000 hours of operation. 2. Rotate the rollers so that the bottom row of balls is on the top and install the rollers again. 3. Remove the turn rollers again after a further 1000 to 2000 operating hours. 4. Remove the seals and fill both rows of balls with lubricant.

Quantity for initial lubrication With the initial lubrication, fill both rows of balls or rolling bearings resp. with lubricant. Quantities for relubrication Relubrication intervals With chain bearing rollers and guide bearing rollers in SKID conveyors, the condition of the lubricant has to be checked every 6 to 8 months. Relubricate if metallic noises can be heard when the roller is running. In case of doubt, have the Lubrication Engineering Service of Klber Lubrication check the condition of the lubricant. With dryer temperatures* of about 220 C, lubrication intervals from 18 to 24 months can be reached. Fill both rows of balls with lubricant.

A4 10015 Fig. 8: Turn roller

Turn rollers, chain bearing rollers and guide support rollers have a similar design. Turn rollers are primarily used on overhead and underfloor conveyors, while chain bearing rollers and guide support rollers are primarily used on SKID conveyors.

BARRIERTA L 55 is Europe's oldest high-quality brand of hightemperature lubricants based on perfluorinated polyether oil (PFPE). The name of BARRIERTA is widely regarded as synonymous with long-term stability and thermal resistance in the lubrication of lowspeed rolling and plain bearings as well as slideways. The friction points have to be free from preservatives and foreign substances prior to initial application. Kinematic viscosity at 40 C approx. 400 mm/s.
