Statement Scope for the Annotated Bibliography When people think of getting sick the first thing that crosses their minds is the flu or viruses, yet many people actually get sick from going out to eat. A harmless thing to do, spending money to having a good time, only to end up in bed stuck with an illness after consuming the food. In the novel Working in the Shadows, by Gabriel Thompson, he mentions how unsanitary some of the jobs were. Despite OSHA and FSMA in place to prevent food borne illness, people are still getting sick because they dont follow the proper sanitation procedures to take care of the food and themselves; more action needs to be in place, especially with food shipments that are contaminated and can't be stopped in time. This essay will explore how sanitation is a necessity for food services and the consumption of food. As well as mention how more business want more regulations put in place to ensure the food is safe to consume. Yet people dont always follow the regulations creating problems in the business. Another point I will discuss of how there are not many regulations for the food that comes over seas and it does not get tested as much as the food made in America, therefor creating a problem if the foreign food is contaminated. Lastly another problem that occurs is how fast the food is shipped; if the food is contaminated and already shipped, it will be harder to stop before consumption. The selected bibliography includes sources that talk about the risk of food borne illness, the proper way to reduce the risk of food borne illness, as well as the risk from foreign food. Even though I did not include sources about the actually facts and descriptions of the food borne illness, as well as any actual cases where people got sick and possibly died. In Cleaning Power the author talks about how they bought all this equipment to enforce and make sure that things are cleaned properly and better. While in Hygiene Fact Sheet the author talks more on personal hygiene and making sure they properly wash their hands to ensure the food does not get contaminated. As a result of all these bibliography they all maintain the same idea that there should be regulations to enforce safe consumption of food.
