TRiO Programs Upward Bound

December 2, 2013 Job Descriptionapply by Monday Dec.16, 2013 English Reading & Writing Instructor Upward Bound Saturday Academy 2014 Upward Bound is a federally funded program designed to motivate and support low-income and first generation high school students attend and complete a post-secondary education. As part of that goal we are looking for committed educators who can provide high school students with quality English reading and writing instruction. Instructors must design and facilitate their own curriculum to help students build their reading comprehension and writing capabilities. Upward Bound course is not for credit and instructors are required to develop a syllabus for the semester. Job Responsibilities: Provide Instruction and directions for approximately 15-17 high school students in preparation for future English courses. Assist in maintaining a positive and safe environment for a diverse student group Enforces the program rules consistently and fairly Communicate student problems and/or concerns effectively with our staff Maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning. Implement creative and motivational instruction/activities that engage our students in meaningful learning experiences. Possess strong and effective communication skills, including relationship building, team building and conflict management experience. Prepare weekly curriculum, syllabus and lesson plans that address the goals outlined above. Communicate regularly with Upward Bound Advisors Minimum Qualifications: Current enrollment or degree in a Masters program such as counseling, psychology, education or social work. Must be enthusiastic and passionate about teaching. Experience working with low income first generation high school students preferred not required Dates of employment: 15 Saturdays from 8am to 12pm starting January 25th through June 7th60 hours total No class the following datesPresidents Day 2/15, TRiO Day 2/22, Easter 4/19, Memorial Day 5/24 and 1 weekend to be determined for a field trip) Compensation: $1,500 dollars lump sum for the semester this includes preparation time outside of instruction. Program provides materials for the course as needed including copies and certain text with advanced notice.
