Individual Lesson Plan Standards and Objectives: S7L2,c 1.

Students will be able to organize cells into tissues, tissues into organs, organs into organ systems, and systems into organisms.

As a result of this lesson, students will Know (facts, vocabulary), Understand (concepts), and/or be able to DO (skills): Know: Students will know that the organization of cells correlates with tissues, organs, systems, and organisms. Students will know that external and internal factors that affect an cell, also affect the tissue, organs, system, and organism. Understand: The student will understand that information about basic cell biology will improve their personal store of knowledge and their scientific inquiry. The student will understand that the organization of cells determines the physical properties, and function of the organ. The student will be able to diagram the organization of a cell as it correlates with tissues, organs, systems, and organisms. The student will be able to write about the effects of denatured cells on tissues, organs, systems, and organisms.

Be Able To Do:

Essential Question(s): 1. What are humans vital organs? 2. If a skin cell has been damaged, what effect would it have on tissue? Organ? Organ system?

Strategies used: Graphic Organizer, Ladder, and Quick write.

Instructional Plan: Time Allowed Specific Plan 20 Students will be given two graphic organizers (Ladder and minutes graphic organizer) that breakdown organisms into systems, 1 systems into organs, organs into tissues, tissues into cells. The students will work individually to complete the organizers. If they do not finish them in class they will be assigned for homework. 15 Students will be grouped into fours. Each group will be given minutes the materials to make the Integumentary system. They will 2 start with different colored puddings that represent the 3 regions of the skin ( Epidermis, Dermis, and Subcutaneous). Then they will be given candy (Twislers- hair follicle, coconutdead skin cells , Gushers are oil glands, and airheads are adipose tissue.) that represents other parts of the system. The students will label the system appropriately, identifying each above part, and the tissues found in this system (Connective tissue, Epithelial tissue, Muscular tissue, Nervous tissue), as well as the types of cells that make up the tissue. 20 Individually the students will be asked to Quick write based minutes on the following questions: 3 1. What are humans vital organs? 2. If a skin cell has been damaged, what effect would it have on tissue? Organ? Organ system? 4

Adaptations/Modifications:

ELL: Students who are ELL will be given copies of handouts in primary language. Students will be allowed to write the Quick write in their primary language. Special Needs: Student, who is blind, will be given a copy of all the graphic organizers and instruction in Brail. RTI: Students with vision problems will be given enlargements of all handouts. Students who need extra time to work on classwork will be given time to complete the activity at home. Students who have allergies to the food products will be given play-dough to complete the hands on activity.
