Aircraft Fuelling Data Sheet No: 100 Bombardier Aerospace Q400 Dash 8

DESCRIPTION FUELLING

The Q400 is the latest stretch of the Dash 8, and is scheduled to come into service during the year 2000. The prefix Q indicates quiet, due to the introduction of a new noise and vibration control system. Fitted with twin Pratt and Whitney Canada PW 150A turboprops, this airliner has a maximum passenger capacity of 78, and a range of 2,400km (1,491 miles).

Pressure: The recommended maximum flowrate is 473 litres/min (125 US gal/min), and the pressure should not exceed 3.45 bar (50 psi). Overwing: No restrictions are specified.

DEFUELLING FUEL

Jet A-1.

The pressure fuelling coupling is normally used for this purpose and an applied suction of 260mmHg (10inHg) should not be exceeded.

FUEL TANK CAPACITIES Tank Port wing Starboard wing Total Litres 3,353 3,353 6,706 US Gal 886 886

TANK VENTS

One pair of fuel vents is installed under each wing at approximately 3.61m (11ft 7in) from the wingtip.

APU EXHAUST 1,772

The APU is located in the tailcone with its exhaust facing upwards and to the rear.

LOCATION OF FUELLING POINTS

Pressure fuelling: A single coupling is located to the rear of the starboard engine nacelle, and is at a mean height of 2.22m (7ft 3in) above ground. Overwing fuelling: Each tank is fitted with a receptacle 4.11m (13ft 6in) inboard of the wing tip and at a height of 3.94m (12ft 11in) above ground.

PRELIMINARY INFORMATION The information in this Data Sheet is preliminary, and may be subject to change.

BONDING

When pressure fuelling a bonding cable should be attached to the grounding socket in the fuelling control panel or to the landing gear. Grounding sockets are installed adjacent to each overwing receptacle for use with this mode of fuelling.

OVERALL LENGTH: 32.84m (107' 7") WINGSPAN: 28.42m (93' 3")

FUEL LEVEL INDICATORS

Each fuel tank is equipped with one magnastick, just outboard of the engine, to facilitate manual measurement of fuel levels.

COUPLING MEAN HEIGHT* 2.22m (7' 3")

Note: Fuelling instructions may alter from time to time, due to aircraft modifications or changes in operational procedures. If there is any doubt, advice should be requested from the airline representative.

*Coupling height and clearances indicated are approximate, and will vary with fuel load, tyre ination, and other factors affecting attitude.
