AFFIDAVIT

I, SOUD JAMERY ALAMA, 41 years old, married, Filipino and a resident of Barangay Santa Barbara, Zamboanga City, do hereby state under oath: 1. That own a two-storey building in Barangay Santa Barbara which is converted into a boarding house and have catered to 20 boarders, all of whom are students of local schools in Zamboanga City. 2. That On September 9, 2013 at about 3 A.M., I along with my son were inside the computer shop renting in my building. 3. That secured my son and hitched a ride with the brother of the barangay chairman via a single motorcycle towards my in-laws house in Tomas Claudio Street. 4. That about 11 A.M., I went back to Sta. Barbara and was allowed to pass by the police. 5. That I went inside Sta. Barbara and was convinced that MNLF soldiers were indeed occupying the area as I came face to face with one of their snipers. 6. That upon knowing that Ustadz Habier Malik was their leader, I then requested to speak to him, with the intention of putting some sense into them that their occupying Sta. Barbara is a bad idea considering that the huge number of civilians who might be severely affected by it are mostly Muslims. 7. That I was there and then confident with my talking with Ustadz Malik because I personally know him in the past as I used to drive for him here in Zamboanga City after he graduated from an Islamic school in Madina, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia back when he was not yet affiliated with the MNLF. 8. That my talk with Ustadz Habier Malik only lasted for about 2-3 minutes because I was afraid that gunshots might resume while I was inside. 9. That during our talk, I reiterated that its the civilians, most of them Muslims, are the ones that would be severely affected by their entering Sta. Barbara. That after the civilians would have left their homes, fire would surely break and their homes which theyve worked all their lives to build would be burnt to the ground. 10. That Ustadz Malik responded that he is aware of the implications. However, in two (2) days, these atrocities would be resolved as representatives from the United Nations and the OIC or Organization of Islamic Conference would intervene and a peaceful resolution will be reached. 11. That I also tried to volunteer myself so that I may be the one to intervene and be a medium for the MNLF and the Police and Military forces, in good faith, in order to facilitate a peaceful resolution to the present crisis but Ustadz Malik declined and told me that a resolution was underway. 12. That I shortly left and went to Metro District Command to report what I had witnessed. 13. That I then requested an audience with the Col. Gucela but Sgt. Maman Estino was the one who spoke with me and told me that I should talk to his boss instead, naming Col. Dadayan. 14. That I waited for Col. Dadaya but he did not see me that day, instead a certain Sgt. Marcos talked to me and I relayed the information regarding my talk with Ustadz habier Malik. 15. That throughout the entire duration of the present crisis, I had been a volunteer every night at the police checkpoint held beside Phoenix Gasoline Station in Barangay Suterville.

16. That I have also actively participated and volunteered with DSWD relief efforts in Baliwasan Central School. 17. That on September 28, 2013, at around 8 P.M., I was on my way home from the Western Mindanao Command in Brgy. Upper Calarian when I was held at a checkpoint in San Jose Road. 18. That Sgt. Maman Estino greeted me and asked for my drivers license. 19. That since he is a friend of mine, I joked around with him and had told him that I left my drivers license at home. 20. That he insisted that I show him another ID, so I gave him my passport; 21. That while he was holding said passport, he scribbled my information in his notebook, with a sarcastic-sounding tone reading aloud the following: a. Jamery, which is my middle name. b. My age 41, which I assume he computed as he saw the Date of Birth information in the passport, which reads 22 September 1972; and c. Ipil which is my place of birth. 22. That just today, September 30 2013, a friend of mine from the Air Force had told me that my picture and name, which includes only my first and middle name was posted inside Edwin Andrews Air Base (EAAB). 23. That said poster included a picture of me, my name SOUD JAMERY, and the phrase MNLF?. 24. That fearing for my safety and security, I willingly come before the Regional Human Rights Commission to have these facts documented for any legal purpose it may serve me and my innocence.

AFFIANT FURTHER SAYETH NAUGHT. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have signed this instrument this 30th day of September 2013 in Zamboanga City, Philippines.
