The New Universal Multichannel Power Supply Systems

In CAEN we believe in the interaction with the client as our key of success. This strict interaction drove our steps designing the products we today proudly introduce: the new Universal Multichannel Power Supply System SY4527 and SY5527. 1. Key features of the new mainframes Modularity, Compatibility, Connectivity, Usability and Robustness are the keywords of the new system design. The System has been specifically designed to power the variety of detectors found in modern Physics Experiments, such as photomultipliers, wire chambers, streamers tubes, silicon detectors and so on. The system is modular and flexible enough to be appropriate both for major experiments where a large number of channels must be remotely controlled, and for test laboratories where simple manual operations on a limited number of channels are often desired.
Main Features: The power supply section is made of modular and easy-to-replace units. The control section is based on a completely re-designed CPU module, which is also easily replaceable by the user, and available inthree versions,BASIC, ADVANCEDandFULL, to best fit the clients requirements. The control can be done both REMOTELY (via Gigabit Ethernet or optionally via Wi-Fi) and LOCALLY (via an optional Colour Touchscreen LCD). The new line consists of two different mainframe versions: The SY4527 is a 19 wide / 8U high mainframe and can house up to 16 boards, to which it can provide a power up to 4.2 kW. The compact version SY5527 is 19 wide / 4U high mainframe and can house up to 6 boards, to which it can provide a power up to 1.8 kW.

features FLEXRAY bus for high speed communication. A completely new Software with graphical user interface has been developed: it permits to set and monitor all the parameters of the system and of the installed boards. This software permits to control the mainframe locally when installed on the Touchscreen LCD display and remotely when installed on a PC or on a TABLET. The connection can be done by Gigabit Ethernet or via Wi-Fi. A new set of additional features is also available including ALARMING, LOGGING and SCRIPTING (this set is optional). Both the new mainframes are available in the PREMIUM edition, which includes all the options: Touchscreen Display, Wi-Fi connectivity and the Advanced software capabilities.

Today CAEN offers its New Universal Multichannel Power Supply Systems in the Premium Version, a unique package including all the available options at an attractive price. The Premium Version is available as an ordering option of both the SY4527 and SY5527 and it features: 10,4 LCD Touchscreen (5.7 for SY 5527) Full Version of the CPU, providing the complete set of panel connectors Advanced Control Software with ALARMING, LOGGING and SCRIPTING capabilities Wi-Fi capability for remote wireless control

A complete family of HV and LV board is available for the new System

High Voltage boards with completely independent channels: from 6 to 32 channels, from 100 V to 15 kV (A15xx family). High Voltage Distributor boards up to 48 channels with Independent Current Monitor (A2932/A2935). Low Voltage boards from 4.5 V to 15 V with Remote Sensing Lines to compensate for the voltage drop over the connection cables.

3. Power Supplies There are 3 different power supply modules for SY4527/SY5527:
Primary PSU - 600 W Primary Power Supply: it is the basic block and it includes the SERVICE PSU and the 600 W PSU for boards in a single slot module. Each System includes one Primary Power Supply 600 W. Optional Single PSU - 600 W Optional Single Power Supply Unit: this PSU adds 600 W of power in a single slot module. This is an optional item to be ordered separately. Optional Double PSU - 1200 W Optional Double Power Supply Unit: this PSU adds 1200 W of power in a single slot module. This is an optional item to be ordered separately.

Note: In SY4527 the max number of PSU which can be installed is 4 (1 Primary and 3 Optional). In case the SY4527 is equipped with LCD display the max number is 2 (1 Primary and 1 Optional). In SY5527 the max number of PSU which can be installed is 2 (1 Primary and 1 Optional).

4. Software and Connectivity

The new Control Software with advanced functionalities (Logging, Scripting, Alerting) allows the user to fully control the system, setting and monitoring all the parameters. Its innovative graphical user interface can be customized to suit the needs of the operator. A Web Configurator allows the user to access the system from the Local Network. Gigabit Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity permit to remotely control SY4527 and SY5527 via a wired LAN or any Wi-Fi enabled device. The embedded Touchscreen Display allows the user to directly monitor and set all the parameters of interest on the system without the need of an external PC.

New Mechanics
The completely redesigned mechanics is available in two robust versions: a large system able to house up to 16 boards (SY4527) or a more compact one able to house up to 6 boards (SY5527) to fit the needs of both big experiments and smaller setups.

New Modularity
The new systems are designed to be configured with the maximum flexibility. The user can compose his preferred configuration according to his needs. This modularity also further improves the system maintenance thanks to its easy-to-replace modular CPU and Power Supplies.

New CPU
The control section is based on a completely new CPU module. It is available in three different versions: BASIC, ADVANCED and FULL.

New Software
A completely New Control Software with graphical interface allows the user to manage, set and monitor all the parameters of the system, the boards installed and the channels. The standard software can be enhanced with an advanced set of features like ALARMING, LOGGING and SCRIPTING.

New Safety
The new systems further improves the already excellent safety features provided in the previous models adding a fuse to the 2 pole circuit breaker.

New Control
The system can be controlled either LOCALLY, via the new Touchscreen LCD, or REMOTELY via Gigabit Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection. Web based control is also provided.

Compatibility
A new backplane fully compatible with all the boards developed for the previous SY1527/SY2527 (HV and LV power supplies, distributors, branch controllers, ...) supports now high speed communication (via FLEXRAY bus).

New Power Supply

Three different Power Supply Units allow the user to expand the basic 600W power supply up to 4200W (1800W per SY5527).
