Lauran Herring Ms. Nesheim ECI 204 12/15/2011 Classroom Management Plan I. General Procedures a.

Beginning of Period At the beginning of each day I will great each student at the door. i. Attendance check- At the beginning of each class I will call out the role and have a student helper hand back work (graded work will be folded hotdog style with students name on back) ii. Previously absent students- Students who were absent the previous day(s) will find notes, handouts, and all makeup work in the "Absentee Box" located on the shelf beside the door. When work is completed in the time given they will hand it in to me. There will also be a "Homework Box" located on this same shelf where student will turn completed homework in during the first five minutes of class. iii. Tardy students- Tardy students will be let into class. They will be expected to quietly turn in their homework to the box and then quietly join the rest of the class. After class they can ask me what they missed. iv. Expected behaviors- Students will be expected to come into class in a civilized manor unpack their belongings and they will have 10 minutes to finish up any food or drinks. After those 10 minutes only beverages in a bottle with a lid will be permitted. Students will be asked to throw their food/beverages away after 10 minutes if they have not finished or have not put them away. b. Out of Room Policies i. Bathroom, Water and Tissue- Students will be given one pass a week. If the student doesn't use this pass they will get to add one point to a grade from that week. ii. Office, Nurse and Counselor- Permission will be granted as need be. iii. Exceptions- Students with documentation stating that they need more passes due to a medical reason or other circumstances will be given more. c. Materials and Equipment

*See attached diagram d. Ending of Period The teacher will teach until the last 5 minutes of class. These 5 minutes will allow students to ask any questions and pack up quietly. Teacher will stand by door and say goodbye to every students as they leave. II. Seatwork and Instruction Procedures a. Student Attention i. Students will be allowed to throw away trash, get a tissue, sharpen a pencil, etc. as long as the teacher is finished talking as well as any students. If the student needs to blow their nose in the hall they will be allowed to as long as they have permission from the teacher. Sleeping students will first be waken up with a warning and the whole class will stand and stretch. If students continue to sleep they will be given a stern warning and a third time will result in a phone call home. b. Student Participation i. Students will be given a check at the end of each week if they have participated in class. Students who do not participate will receive a minus. Participation will be worth 10%. c. Seatwork Procedures i. Talk amongst students- Quiet talk will be allowed in the classroom as long as an individual assignment is not being worked on or a test. ii. Obtaining help- Students may get help by raising their hands to ask questions or coming up to the teacher's desk. iii. Out of seat- As long as the teacher is not teaching a lesson or a test is going in students will be allowed to do what needs to be done out of their seats as long as it isn't disrupting. iv. When seatwork is complete- Students will be asked to fold work hotdog style and write their names on the outside. They will then be instructed to pass the work to the front. Students will keep work until all students are finished. They will be allowed to read quietly or work on other homework once finished. III. Student Group Work a. Use of Materials and Supplies- One student from every group will be able to get any materials that the group needs, from the station at the back of the room, during group work.

b. Assignment of Students to Groups- Students will get to choice their own groups. Group size will depend on the project. Groups will be adjusted as teacher sees fit due to unnecessary talking, uneven distribution of work, or any other behavior problems. c. Student Participation and Behavior- All students will be required to participate and will have an individual grade as well as a group grade. IV. Miscellaneous a. Class Rules- Students and teacher will come up with rules as a group. My number one rule will be: Be Respectful to others and their belongings. The rules will then be typed up and each student will have to sign that they agree to follow them. b. Daily Protocols- Students will be able to find the schedule of their class on the side board, along with the homework for that night, a school wide schedule, and any upcoming school events. c. Levels of Consequences 1st time- Verbal Warning 2nd time- Stern Verbal warning 3rd time- Student and teacher will meet in the hall. Depending on the situation a note will be sent home or a phone call will be made 4th time- Student will be asked to leave the room. (ISS, Principle Office, etc,) d. Intervention Strategies Description: Student is off task, keeping other students from doing their work. Intervention Strategy: Ask the student if they need help with their work, or ask them if they are finished working. Suggest to the student to get back to work or they will be moves closer to the teacher. If that doesnt work, move the student closer to you and warn them of further consequences. Description: Arguments or disagreements among students. Intervention Strategy: Separate the students take them in the hall or away from the class. Question each student about the situation and ask them how they could work it out. What could they do to keep this from happening? Teach and model responsible behaviors with other students and faculty. Description: Student has negative attitudes about themselves and their school work.

Intervention Strategy: Praise the student when they have obtained a goal or have done well on an assignment, set obtainable goals for the student, get the student involved more in the class. Description: Student bulling another student. Intervention Strategy: Call the parent (if serious involve administration) Let the student know that will not be tolerated. Give the student a leadership role in the classroom. Have an active environment within the classroom for the student. Keep a close eye on the student when he or she interacts with other students and redirect them whenever needed. Description: Student has bruises or seems to be abused some way at home. Intervention Strategy: Document everything you see, dated where the bruises are located how the child acts. If it continues to happen get your principal and guidance counselor involved. Description: Student is actively disrupting the class during instructional time. Intervention Strategy: Use proximity, come close to his/her desk, put your hands on their backs, get them to help you with the lesson. If students are a continuous problem in the classroom, after a one on one meeting with the teacher, the parent will be called or asked to come in. If situation worsens parent, student, teacher and administration will meet. Description: A student is having trouble with communicating with students and the teacher because of language differences. Intervention Strategy: Work together with the ESL teacher and find ways to interact and teach the student in your class. Have the student teach the class words in their language each day. e. Preventive Behavior Management and Motivation Techniques The teacher should stay involved in the student's lives. Be aware of what is going on in the classroom, the lunchroom, the hall, even be aware of what is the latest song, fashion, video game in pop culture. Constantly remind students of rules when classroom gets loud or things are stirring up. Have antsy students pass out papers. If the whole class seems overly active have them do a few jumping jacks. Teacher should be energetic and seem like they are enjoying what they are doing. Give praise when earned. f. Behavior during Interruptions

Students will be expected to be on their best behavior during these times. If the class is interrupted by a visitor and the class feels the need to talk teacher will raise her hand students will know this is the first warning. the second warning will be given by a flicker of the lights. If talking continues students will be given an extra assignment. g. Fire and Disaster Drills Students will follow school policy during these procedures and will be expected to be calm. Students who act out during these drills will have their parents contacted. h. Lunch Period Students will line up for lunch in an orderly fashion they will walk in a single file line to the cafeteria, and will follow cafeteria rules. i. Lockers Students will be expected to bring all materials to class. If something is forgotten, the first time they will be able to use their one weekly pass to go get it. After this time students will not be allowed to go to their lockers during class. Implementation PlanEach student will be given this plan on the first day. Students will need to take it home and have their parents sign it, they too will have to sign it, then bring it back the next day for a homework grade. I will keep these plans on file. This plan should work well because all students well behaved and disruptive have been thought of. Class should run smoothly if this plan is followed.
