December 12th Feast of Our Lady of Gaudalupe

Dear Parishioners, Mary, mother of Jesus, is venerated and revered under several titles. On December 12th we commemorate Our Lady of Gaudalupe, a title that is very dear to us. She is the patroness of the Americas. In December of 1531, Our Lady appeared to an Aztec farmer named Juan Diego near a native Aztec shrine in Tepeyac, near present day Mexico city She told Juan to go to the bishop and ask that a church be built in that place. When the bishop demanded a sign, Mary instructed Juan to take with him the roses that were blooming there, even though it was December. Returning to the Bishops house, Juan removed his coarse cloak and found that the image of Our Lady was emblazoned up on it. The cloak with its image is still viewed today inside the Basilica of Our Lady of Gaudalupe by pilgrims from around the world. Our Lady of Gaudalupe, who was declared Patroness of the Americas by Pope Pius XII in 1954, is widely revered throughout our hemisphere and receives special affection from Native American and Hispanic communities. When we reflect on the feast of Our Lady of Gaudalupe we learn two important lessons: first, that of faith and secondly that of understanding. The first lesson is that God has chosen Mary to lead us to Jesus. Mexicans and Mexican descendants owe their Christianity to Our Lady of Gaudalupe, to her influence. If it were not for her, they would not know her son, and so they are eternally grateful. The second lesson we take from Mary herself. Mary appeared to Juan Diego not as a European Madonna but as a beautiful Aztec princess speaking to him in his own Aztec language. If we want to help someone appreciate the gospel we bring, we must appreciate the culture and the mentality in which they live their lives. By understanding them, we can help them to understand and know Christ. When Our Blessed Mother appeared to Juan Deigo, she spoke this message of hope to him and to all her children: Do not let your countenance, your heart be disturbed Am I not here, I who am your Mother? Are you not in the hollow of my mantle, in the crossing of my arms? Do you need anything more? Let nothing else worry you, disturb you. When things in our life get stressful , for obtaining peace, let us remind ourselves of who we have on our side and how much Our Blessed Mother loves us. May Our Lady of Gaudalupe bless each of us and our families with faith in her Son and with understanding of our brothers and sisters.

Entendindolos primero podemos ayudarlos a conocer a Cristo. No te encuentras bajo mi sombra y proteccin?
