ALUMY SUSPENSION

Part 1
The brief description of the Alumy Suspension ALUMY Suspension is a combination of Aluminium hidroxide and Magnesium trisilicate as antacids and Dimethicone as antiflatulent. Molecules of Alucol and Magnesium trisilicate are found in the form of stable dried gel which can neutralize the gastric juice so that the pH is increased to 3-5 and is prolonged for a relatively long time. Alucol and Magnesium trisilicate also impede pepsin activities so that the gastric juice and pepsin levels in the gaster regain to normal and persistent condition. Alucol and Magnesium trisilicate dont reduce acid rebound. Dimethicone is a compound of activated silicon fluid containing silicine dioxide an mildly dispersed state.dimethicone in-vitro works potentially as antiflatulent by changing the surface tension of gas bubbles which are entrapped in the mucous membrane of gastrointestinal tract. Aluminum Hydroxide, Magnesium trisilicate are antacids used together to relieve heartburn, acid indigestion, and upset stomach. They may be used to treat these symptoms in patients with peptic ulcer, gastritis, esophagitis, hiatal hernia, or too much acid in the stomach (gastric hyperacidity). They combine with stomach acid and neutralize it. Aluminum Hydroxide, Magnesium Hydroxide are available without a prescription. This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information. ALUMY is available in two form, chewable tablet for adults and suspension for children. Each form is carefully designed to meet the demand and optimum

efficacy. Shake the oral liquid well before each use to mix the medicine evenly. The liquid may be mixed with water or milk.

Part 2
Ingredients of the Alumy Suspension Each 1 teaspoon 5 ml suspension contains a Aluminum hydroxide dried gel 200 mg magnesium trisilicate 5H2O 300 mg Dimethicone / Dimetilpolisiloksan 20 mg.

The way to formulate the Alumy Suspension.

Because we use a products which already on the apotek, so we didn't use a way to formulate it.

Part 3
Dosage Adult Children : 1-2 Measurement Spoonfuls, Four Times Daily. : -1 Mesurement Spoonful, four Times Daily. Taken 1-2 Hours After Meal Or Before Bed Time. Indication To overcome gastric disturbances and acid indigestion due to over acidification, gastrititis or reflux oesophagitis caused by excessive gastric acid in the gastro intestinal tract. Contradiction Patients with renal disturbances. Drug interaction Obstipatio effect of aluminium hydroxide gel will be nutralized by the laxative effect of magnesium trisilicate. Aluminium hydroxide gel will reduce the absorpstion of other drugs such as tetracycline and vitamin and delay the absorption of

quinidine.meanwhile , magnesium trisilicate is found to have no special interaction with other drug. Side effect a) Constipation ,Diarrhea , Nausea, vomiting . b) Hypophosphatenia And Osteomalacia (In High Dosage For Long Administration) c) Dialysis Denertia (In Long Administration For Dialysis Patients) Warning and precaution a) Not recommended for a long period of period administration (more than two weeks) unless on doctor s instruction as it can result in gastric function dependence. b) Concomitant use with cimetidine or tertracycline whenever needed, should be administration in 1-2 hours interval. c) Long administration of aluminium hydroxide gel in patients with low phospate diet can cause osteomalacia renal richer. d) Magnesium trisilicate in intestines turns into magnesium salt which can be absorbed and excreted in renal function. So, in case of renal disturbance it can cause hypermagnesia with magnesium intoxication symptoms and central nervous system depression. e) Not recommended for children below 6 years old unless on doctors instruction, since the cause in children is not clearly known.

Part 4
Conclution Alumy Suspension is one good remedy for gastric pain, generally antacid medication that has been chosen is the kind of poorly soluble, so the reaction is slow and can last a long time, such as aluminium hydroxide and magnesium trisilicate. Alumy suspension is a tipe of suspension preparation , so that he also has the advantages and disadvantages

Advantages 1. Pharmaceutical Suspension can improve chemical stability of certain drug. 2. Duration and onset of action can be controlled. 3. Suspension can mask the unpleasant/ bitter taste of drug.

Disadvantages 1. Physical stability, sedimentation and compaction can causes problems. 2. It is bulky sufficient care must be taken during handling and transport. 3. It is difficult to formulate 4. Uniform and accurate dose can not be achieved unless suspension are packed in unit dosage form
