Designed for refineries, chemical & oleo-chemical plants,
power plants, etc with boilers (such as auxiliary boilers),
heating equipment (such as furnaces, tubular heaters)
and other equipments with refractory:

API inspectors and inspectors of statuary

DOSH Officers involved in power plant and
equipment inspection (with refractory)
Inspection Engineers of power boilers with
refractory
Maintenance Technician/Engineers

No required class pre-requisites. However, students who
wish to sit for the API exam should have 3 years of
experience at a petro-, chemical- or industrial facility and
have at least 1 year of inspection experience. The
certification examination covers, at a minimum, the
following criteria defined by API Recommended Practice
936, Refractory
Installation Quality Control Guidelines Inspection and
Testing Monolithic Refractory Linings and Materials:

These classes and exams are not easy, so only
individuals who are serious about their pressure
equipment career should participate.

The API 936 training course will take place over 5 days.
The course will be broken up into five different sections,
which will be covered during the five days of the course.
At the end of the course, all students should be in a
position to be able to pass the API written exam.

Whether or not the students choose to take the exam, all
the information processed during the course will be a
fundamental stepping-stone in the understanding of the
refractory process, applications and specifications
covered in all industries throughout the world from the
petro chemical industry to light industry.

John Nesbitt
Trainers Profile
John Nesbitt has more than 22 years
experience and involvement in the
refractory industry and the petro chemical
industry.

His earlier experience is based on the
hands on installation and maintenance of
all refractory lined and refractory related
unites in the refinery and petrochemical
industry.

He later on went on to become Quality
control manager in 1998, which led to his
present position in inspection. John
Nesbitt has worked in the refractory
inspection field since 2003 where he has
gained extensive experience in
inspection of refractory &
recommendation using the API standards
as the backbone of his inspections.

John Nesbitt has carried out refractory
inspections worldwide, spanning from
Africa, Europe & to the Far East where
pre turnaround off site refractory
inspections were carried out and on site
pre inspection of units for scope of works
to be carried out. In addition, inspection
throughout the duration of TA to ensure
all the completed works is within the API
specifications.
Educational / Technical Qualifications:-

- API registered and API 936 tested

- Member of the Refractory Institute of Refractory
Engineers.

- Refractory Engineering level 1 & 2, Refractory
inspection for HPI & Petrochemical Industries

- Refractory for Industrial users- Fundamentals &
Advanced, Advanced refractory Technology- IRE
