CASE SUMMARY Overall, this case study is about the managing director of the Office Equipment Company (OEC)

in Lima, Peru, announced suddenly that he would leave within one month on 1997. Thus, the company had to find a replacement within that period. In brief, OEC is a wide variety of small office equipment in eight different countries which distributes and sells their products worldwide. On all matters, the headquarters in the U.S. will report to the managing director in Peru such as accounting, finance and labor relations. According to OEC policy, they have to select the new managing director from internal candidate which are the employers of the company is the combination of home, host- , and third-country nationals in top positions in foreign countries whereas the managers are commonly rotate among foreign and U.S. locations. The criteria needed for the position is the candidate must be have international experience. At this moment, the company had short-listed five candidates. The first candidate are Tom Zimmerman, 30 year old, expert in technical and sales aspect, never worked abroad but has visited outside companys foreign facilities, competent, didnt speak Spanish, and currently is in charge of an operation. Second candidate, Brett Harrison, 40 years old, 15 years at OEC, competent, never been abroad, but has 3 years experience in Latin America, married and speaks Spanish adequately. Third is Carolyn Moyer, 37 years old, twelve years in OEC, current position is planning staff team and speaks well Spanish also unmarried. Fourth candidate, Francisco Cabrera, 35 years old, worked for OEC for twelve years, current positions is assistant managing director, married, speaks English adequately. Fifth candidate, Juan Moreno, 27 years old, current position is assistant to the present managing director in Peru, unmarried, and competent but lack of experience.
