Tutorial When analysing painting know: -artist/architect - date -brief description scrapbook - minimum 10 articles (also advertisements, essays) maximum 30 -relate concepts of art and power to one another -table of contents - must have source on article itself -must be within last 10 years -must have binder/ scrapbook - 3 page double spaces written commentary at front types of galleries - public run -Funding: government funded, on any level of government, donations, admission fee - Who/What is shown: National works, current popular culture - Relationship with artists: established artists, directors dictate shows - other events/ services: public lectures, responding events - Commercial galleries -Funding: Profits, private funding, typical gallery commision (50%) - Who/What is shown: Whats on sale, contemporary, any medium, but can be commodified - Relationship with artists: mutual benefit relationship - other events/ services: artist talks, openings, auctions, book launches - Artist run centers -Funding: government funding, grants, no admission fees or restaurants - Who/What is shown: own work or non-established artists, members can display work at centers. Artist run center is like a peer review of work, local work, - Relationship with artists: very personal, artists curate - other events/ services: openings, workshops on how to prepare yourself, how to put together portfolio, how to approach other galleries
