Construction Type

1x7 Strand Core is a single-strand construction. It is a common construction type, and offers some abrasion-resistance, but has low flexibility. It is commonly used in large diameters in guy wire for bracing and stability, and for messenger support (1/8 inch and above), and electrical strand applications. In smaller diameters, it's used as fishing leaders and line.

1x19 Strand Core has one strand of wire rope with 19 wires in each strand, formed helically around a strand core. It offers abrasion-resistance, is minimally flexible, and is used for rigging, hoisting, push-pull and guying applications.

3x7 Hollow Core has three strands of wire rope with seven wires in each strand, formed helically around a hollow core. It is flexible, fatigue-resistant, and commonly used as a guard rope, and in oceanography, for anchor mooring, salvage operations, or for maneuvering underwater scientific instruments.

6x7 Class Fiber Core (FC), also known as sash cord, has six strands of wire rope with three to 14 wires in each strand, of which no more than nine are outside wires. It is formed helically around a fiber core (FC). This wire rope is commonly used for sand lines, or swabbing in drilling applications.

6x19 Class Fiber Core has six strands of wire rope with 15 to 26 wires in each strand, of which no more than 12 are outside wires. It is formed helically around a fiber core (FC). This rope is less flexible, but more abrasion-resistant than the 6x37 class construction. It is commonly used with cranes or hoists, mining, slope rope, shaft hoist ropes, and rotary drill lines. It's also used with clamshells in holding and closing lines, tag line, and boom hoist lines.

6x19 Class IWRC (Independent Wire Rope Core) wire rope has six strands of wire rope with 15 to 26 wires in each strand, of which no more than 12 are outside wires. It is formed helically around an independent wire rope core (IWRC). This rope is less flexible, but more abrasion-resistant than the 6x37 class construction. It is commonly used with cranes or hoists, mining, slope rope, shaft hoist ropes and rotary drill lines. It's also used with clamshells in holding and closing lines, tag line and boom hoist lines.

6x19 Class Heavy-Duty IWRC Core has six strands of wire rope with 15 to 26 wires in each strand, of which no more than nine are outside wires, and it is formed helically around an independent wire rope core (IWRC). This rope is less flexible, but more abrasion-resistant than the 6x37 class construction. It is more crush-resistant, than fiber, strand, or IWRC. This wire is commonly used with cranes or hoists, and for mining, slope rope, shaft hoist ropes, and rotary drill lines. It's also used with clamshells in holding and closing lines, tag line, and boom hoist lines.

6x36 Class Fiber Core, also called 6x37, has six strands of wire rope with 27 to 49 wires in each strand, of which no more than 18 are outside wires. The strands are formed helically around a fiber core. This wire rope is more flexible than the 6x19 class wire rope, but less abrasive-resistant. It is commonly used with heavy-duty hoisting cranes, such as a ladle crane, in clamshell holding and closing lines, or boom hoist lines, and in dredges, shovels, skidders, excavators, winches, logging, and oil field applications.

6x36 Class IWRC Core, also called 6 x 37, has six strands of wire rope with 27 to 49 wires in each strand, of which no more than 18 are outside wires. The strands are formed helically around an independent wire rope core (IWRC).

6x36 Class Heavy Duty IWRC Core, also called 6x37, has six strands of wire rope with 27 to 49 wires in each strand, formed helically around a heavy-duty, independent wire rope core (IWRC). This wire rope is more flexible than the 6x19 class wire rope, but less abrasive-resistant. It resists crushing, and is commonly used with heavy-duty hoisting cranes, such as a ladle crane, in clamshell holding and closing lines, or boom hoist lines, and in dredges, shovels, skidders, excavators, logging, and oil field applications.

6x42 Fiber Core, also called Tiller Rope, has six strands of wire rope with 42 wires in each strand, formed helically around a fiber core. This wire rope is fatigue-resistant, and is a standard working wire rope, commonly used in heavy-duty hoisting cranes and in dredges, shovels, skidders, excavators, logging, oil industry, and specialized applications.

7x3 Strand Core has seven strands of wire rope with three wires in each strand, formed helically around a strand core. It is flexible, and has fatigue-resistance, but its breaking strength is lower than single-strand construction. This wire rope is commonly used for rigging and hoisting.

7x7 Strand Core has seven strands of wire rope with seven wires in each strand, formed helically around a strand core. It is stronger, but less flexible than the 6x19 and 6x36 class constructions. This rope is commonly used in pulleys, and in aircraft and automotive controls.

7x19 Strand Core has seven strands of wire rope with 19 wires in each strand, formed helically around a strand core. It is strong, and more flexible and fatigue-resistant than the 7x7 class construction. This wire rope can be used over pulleys, rigging, winches, in exercise equipment, and garage door mechanics.

7x19 Class IWRC Core has seven strands of wire rope with 15 to 26 wires in each strand, of which no more than 12 are outside wires. The strands are formed helically around an independent wire rope core (IWRC). This rope is commonly used with pulleys, rigging, and winches.

8x19 Class Fiber Core has eight strands of wire rope with 15 to 26 wires in each strand, of which no more than 12 are outside wires. The strands are formed helically around a fiber core. This wire rope has minimum crush-resistance, and is a common construction for maximum flexibility.

19x7 Strand Core has 19 strands of wire rope with three to 14 wires in each strand, of which no more than nine are outside wires. The strands are formed helically around a

strand core. This rope is rotation-resistant, and is used with crawler and truck cranes for single-line hoisting operation, and winch and whip line applications, and with crane auxiliary hoisting in offshore operations.

19x7 IWRC Core is a fatigue-resistant, flexible, non-rotating wire rope that has 19 strands of wire rope with seven wires in each strand, formed helically around an independent wire rope core (IWRC). This rope is rotation-resistant, and is commonly used with crawler and truck cranes for single-line hoisting operation, winch and whip line applications, and with crane auxiliary hoisting in offshore operations.
