Electrically Powered Steering Belt Drive EPS

Steering Systems
Electrically Assisted Steering (EAS) by TRW is an innovative power-assist system that eliminates the connection between steering system and engine. One part of the EAS family is the Electrically Powered Steering Belt Drive EPS. This electromechanical powered steering system is the most efficient EAS system that TRW has to offer. The assist power is applied directly to the rack via a drive belt and a ball nut mechanism. This design allows for lower inertia, lower friction and more direct steering feel, as well as superior response. TRW control algorithms and the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) design allow steering dynamic characteristics that are not possible with hydraulic steering, all of which can be tuned to the application. As with all other TRW electromechanical steering systems, the Belt Drive EPS consumes power only when steering assist is needed. The product is delivered as a fully tested, ready-to-install unit that leads to optimized fuel efficiency in comparison to conventional assisted steering systems. TRWs EPS contains no fluid to eliminate vacuum / fill operations on the factory floor. The Belt Drive EPS by TRW is becoming smaller and more flexible to satisfy customer packaging requirements. The configuration of the product regarding motor and ECU size and location are designed to adapt to customer needs. In addition, the Belt Drive EPS can be integrated with other vehicle systems to create new functionality.
