Financial services: CIs work on financial services aims to ensure consumers have access to safe, fair and competitive markets in financial services. Following a successful campaign asking the G20 to make recommendations for improving financial consumer protection, we are now contributing to the development of new international guidance in this area led by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. We are also contributing to a new international standard on mobile payments. Join the CI Financial Services e-network. Food safety, security and nutrition: CI is campaigning for consumers to have access to safe and nutritious food. CI is campaigning to support the implementation of World Health Organisation (WHO) targets that will help consumers choose healthier diets through improved nutrition labelling, reducing fat, sugar and salt and a ban of marketing junk food to children. CI also works on food safety by accrediting consumer experts to Codex the international process for developing international food safety standards. We also produce a regular update on international processes relating to food prices. Join the CI Food e-network. Consumers in the digital age: Many consumers now depend on communications networks such as the internet; however the rise of these new technologies has created a number of new issues for consumer protection. CIs programme on consumers in the digital age addresses the three interrelated issues of consumers access to knowledge, consumer representation in international processes related to the digital age and improving broadband services for consumers. Join the CI Digital Consumers e-network. Consumer protection and empowerment measures: CI supports the development of consumer law, standards and consumer education around the world by giving Members access to expertise either within CI, within our membership or from external sources. CI is also making recommendations for the revision of the UN Guidelines for Consumer Protection (UNGCP) which is due in 2014. The UNGCP has acted as the guidebook for consumer agencies since 1985. This programme is also leading work on developing sustainable business models for consumer organisations. Join the Consumer Justice and Protection e-network.
