Wehavealsobeengearingupfortheupcomingmunicipal,school,andlocalelectionsand haveincludedsomelinksandimportantresourcestoguideyouthroughtheelectionprocess. Thisyear,CAUSEhaspartneredupwithL.A.CityVotes,acampaigndedicatedtoincrease electoralparticipationamongvotersinLosAngelesformunicipalelections.Weencourage everyonetogetinformedandgetoutthevote.Readonformoreinformation. surroundingCityofCerritosCouncilmemberCarolK.Chenandherstereotypicalportrayal inapoliticaladvertisement.

JoinedbyotherAPIgroups,suchastheAsianPacificPolicyandPlanningCouncil (A3PCON),ChineseAmericanCitizen'sAlliance(C.A.C.A.),theChineseAmerican ElectedOfficialsAssociation(CEO),andtheOCAGLA,CAUSEdenouncedthisparticular advertisement,asitusedracialstereotypestoportrayAsianPacificIslanders(API)ina negativelight.

Theadvertisement,whichwasprintedinaCerritoscommunitynewspaper, depictsanillustrationofChenalongsideCommunistleadersofthelikesof MaoZedong,JosephStalin,andKarlMarx. "Useofimagestoappealtoracialprejudice,andtheuseofnegativestereotypestoattackan individualarenotacceptableinpoliticsandinthemedia,"saidBoardChairWoo. Inacommentmadeafterthepressconference,Chenstatedthatshetrulyviewedthe advertisementasanassaultontheentireAPIcommunityandthatsheappreciatedthe community'seffortinspeakingoutagainstracism.
