Dear Friends:

I send you greetings in the name of Jesus Christ, asking God to

send His blessings on you.

We are well for which we give God thanks. Only our son, Efren, has been a little sick. He cut his le^ on a piece of glass and had to have stitches to close the wound. My eye is completely well now, for
which I also give God thanks.

In my last letter, I mentioned a plan of evangelism that we wanted to put into action during the month cf June. The plan consisted of having services in the homes of the members that lived near the church
as well as in the homes of tkse who lived farther away.

We were able to carry out the first part but not the second.
The reason for this was the heavy rains caused the only bridge to the
area where those families lived to fall. We could have walked from

the bridge to the houses, but it is very very dangerous to leave cars along the highway unattended. So, we decided it would be better to leave this part of the plan until the rainy season passes.
In the services, we held in the homes the first week, only one new person attended. The second week not one new person came,
not even the one who had came the week before. The members were a

bit discouraged. The third week we had six new people and the fourth week the same six returned plus two more. Praise the Lord! The 30th of June we begin our Vacation Bible School and it will end on the 9th of July, Our son, Eduardo, Jr., will be the director of these activities. My wife and our daughter. Carmen, will be teachers along with two other young ladi from the church. 1*11

be the chauffeur and according to my figures, 1*11 hae to make four

trips to pick up the children and four more to take th^ home.

It looks like we are going to have baptism around the first

of the month of July.

Friends, we thank you for all your help. Things don*t always work out the way they are planned. Some times the work doesn't
bear fruit as one wishes, nor when one wislBs. But, I can tell you

with all honesty that God has done great things in this place. The church is very young. I'm under the impression that it is the youngest congregation in all of Mexico that really constitutes a church.
The members have learned to give and to tithe. They pay all their bills such as water, lights and construction costs. We continue building; there's a lot yet to be done. Butibecause of the

high cost of materials, and |B|prices go up every month, we are

moving very slowly.

Please-continue to pray for this place, for the members of

the church and for us.

May God Bless You.

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well and that the peace and love
of Jesus Christ be with you.

We are all well, for which we are thankful.

I had a

bad throat the last week of August but now I'm much better.

The first week of August we had special services for the young people of the church. We took advantage of our
children Carmen and Lalo and Saul still being here before

going back to Colegio Biblico.

This greatly encouraged the

younq people of the church as well as the visitors that attended. The last of August three new young people (two girls and a boy)
began attending. Also the oldest son of brother Hemberto Calderon, who in the past was very reluctant to come to the

meetings, is now attending regularly.

On the 14th of August, I left to take Carmen Lalo, Saul and a girl from the church to Colegio Biblico. We had a lot

of problems and lost a lot of time trying to get a student Visa for this girl. After everything was done that could be done she
still didn*t get it and had to return home.
I said we lost a lot of time because when i t was time

to leave for Colegio Biblico the American Consulate in Mexico City was closed to Visa service and had been for several months
because of terrorist threats. We threfore had to go to another

city that was off our route to try to get this taken care of.
All this, of course, meant time and money.

The church gave some money to help with this girl's

expenses, but I paid for the gasoline and the meals and even though the phone calls we had to make to Colegio Biblico were collect calls, the business places that let me use their phone charged me $1000 pesos or $1.50 dollar# every time I
had to use the phone. Of course there were other expenses
but these were the biggest.

The doctor wasn't able to get his Visa either. It seems that this year the Consulate made things much more

This trip the truck gave us more mechanical trouble.

It was nothing really serious but time consuming-

At Colegio

Biblico we lost three days waiting for parts to repair it. We had intended to make a trip to visit my sister in Colorado,

and even started on the trip but the truck broke down again
after we had been on the road for five hours; so there were
more expenses. At that point my wife and I decided to return

I guess it is time to begin thinking about

asking God for another one.

We've had this one for six years

we left home the truck had a minor problem with the steering system. It was not real se^^-ous but I wanted to get it fixed

as soon as possible. I wanted to take advantage of our being at the border to buy the parts since they are so much cheaper there so I called the Middaughs in Riverton, Illinois to explain

the problem. They sent $357.00 to buy the steering gear box which was the part needed. But as I said, we we got to Colegio Biblico the truck quit running completely. After this, problem

Dear Friends:

I am confident that the blessings of the Lord Jesus Christ are upon you.
As always i t is a pleasure to write you and tell you about the things that are happening here.

This has been a very slow month as far as activities in the church are concerned. It has been raining a lot and there have been some bad storms. So the people havenit been
able to get out of their houses. The rivers have overflov/ed

their banks and some roads have been covered with water.

Long

stretches of the road between Cuautla and Zacatepec are just about completely destroyed. Before the rains, the roads weren't very good. Now they are terrible.
You may remember that in a newsletter some time back,

I told you about a little girls in the church, the daughter of sister Maria Elena Pulido, got her hand mangled in a
tortilla making machine. Her name is Lourdes and she is 12 years old. After the accident she was operated on and after

several skin grafts, her hand seemed to be fine. But recently her fingers began to grow more and more crooked and bent. Two weeks ago they operated on her hand again and it is still too soon to know what the results will be. We ask you to pray with us for this girls. She's missed many of her classes in school and its beginning to look like she may lose the whole school year.
A new young couple that I baptized about eleven years ago when I was still up north, moved into the area near to Zacatepec and have begun to attend the church there. This couple now has three children and are now living in a town
near Zacatepec.

Our young peoples group has been growing greatly recently for which we are very thankful. There are also

a number of new people who have been attending the regular

church services. They have been attending regularly for so long that we no longer consider them visitors, but they
have not yet been baptized.
We are ready for the anniversary celebration of the church building. It will be on the 12th of October. We have
received notice that a number of our churches in the area

are planning to join us on that day, as well as several Christian friends who will be traveling longer distances.

It looks like it's going to be a wonderful day.

Our children, Carmen and Lalo are fine. We know this from the letters we receive from them at Colegio Biblico. We also know

that they are happy. We ask you to pray for them, because they are fine young people. I don't say this because they are our children, but because they have just been fine young people and I pray with all my heart that they might always be.
My wife and I thank you for all the spiritual and economical help that you continue to send us. We pray that the Lord will bless each; of you in your individual lives and in your work for HimT'

One of the things we did not accomplish, was the plan to elect deacons this year. We were not able to do this because the men didn*t regularly attend the special classes we held for them. Some would attend one class and others the next, and that's the way it was all year. Since the church wants trained leaders we plan to continue this program again next year. Rubye Jones, who is now dead, began sending me a part of her mission giving in 1964. Paul E. Black of Springfield, Illinois began helping me
in 1965.

These churches and brethren have collaborated in this missionary work in

Mexico for more than 20 years. My beloved wife and I continue in the

"trenches" of the Lord's work and soon we will complete 25 years as man and wife. I owe a lot to my wife. Next to my salvation, she is the most
precious thing that "sugar cane jungle". the Lord has given me. We'll continue here in the

Turning to other things, we want to let you know that Luz Chanez had emergency surgery. She is a member of the church at Zacatepec. Also,

Siriaco Gusmin from the church in Cuautla was operated on. He is 84 years old. Both are doing well and recovering satisfactorily from their
operations.

The members will form two groups and go calling two days weekly, Thursday
and Saturday. This will all be in preparation for the
having in April.

February will be very busy with much work for the church at Zacatepec.
revival we'll be

The end of January the Young Peoples' Group organized a short three day
revival. The purpose was to encourage the young people that are already

members and to win new ones to Christ. Both goals were accomplished, for which we praise the Lord. I might add here that the young people at
Zacatepec who are not Christians have many alcohol related problems which
results in many other problems. Our Young Peoples* Group is searching for ways to win them to Christ. One of the young men of the church is deeply

involved in local politics, and it looks like he has been able to acquire use of a piece of property to be used for sports, games and other youth
or the youth. Pray with us that this may become a reality.

A.nother exciting thing to mention, related to the work, is that in January the church at Zacatepec had their election of officers. David Lagunes was named Youth Minister, Erroc Lagunes Sunday School Superintendent, Guillermo Leorrardo Mission Secretary, Trma Jimenez - Church Secretary,
and Asis Gusmin was placed in charge of construction. In addition to these church officers there is also a Church treasurer and Sunday School
Teachers.

Dear friends and brethren in Christ, we thank you again for your spiritual and economic support. Please continue to pray for us. May God bless you
richly.

I can personally attest to this as my wife, daughter and I had the pleasure to visit Mexico in the fall of 1984, and help build the church in Zacatepec. I can also personally attest that the mission work deserves your support as ny family and I labored during the two and half weeks we
were in Mexico.
