1he pump is not deliering
liquid.
1he pump is not primed. Re-prime the pump and check that the pump and
suction line are ull o liquid.
1he suction line is clogged. Remoe the obstructions.
1he impeller is clogged. Back-lush the pump in order to clean the impeller.
1he shat is rotating in the wrong direction. Change the rotation. 1he rotation must match the
arrow on the bearing housing or pump casing.
1he oot ale or suction pipe opening is not
submerged enough.
Consult an I11 representatie or the proper
submersion depth. Use a bale in order to
eliminate ortices.
1he suction lit is too high. Shorten the suction pipe.
1he pump is not producing
the rated low or head.
1he gasket or O-ring has an air leak. Replace the gasket or O-ring.
1he stuing box has an air leak. Replace or readjust the mechanical seal.
1he impeller is partly clogged. Back-lush the pump in order to clean the impeller.
1he clearance between the impeller and the
pump casing is excessie.
Adjust the impeller clearance.
1he suction head is not suicient. Make sure that the suction-line shuto ale is
ully open and that the line is unobstructed.
1he impeller is worn or broken. Inspect and replace the impeller i necessary.
1he pump starts and then
stops pumping.
1he pump is not primed. Re-prime the pump and check that the pump and
suction line are ull o liquid.
1he suction line has air or apor pockets. Rearrange the piping in order to eliminate air
pockets.
1he suction line has an air leak. Repair the leak.
1he bearings are running
hot.
1he pump and drier are not aligned properly. Realign the pump and drier.
1here is not suicient lubrication. Check the lubricant or suitability and leel.
1he lubrication was not cooled properly. Check the cooling system.
1he pump is noisy or
ibrates.
1he pump and drier are not aligned properly. Realign the pump and drier.
1he impeller is partly clogged. Back-lush the pump in order to clean the impeller.
1he impeller or shat is broken or bent. Replace the impeller or shat as necessary.
1he oundation is not rigid. 1ighten the hold-down bolts o the pump and
motor. Make sure the baseplate is properly grouted
without oids or air pockets.
1he bearings are worn. Replace the bearings.
1he suction or discharge piping is not anchored
or properly supported.
Anchor the suction or discharge piping as
necessary according to recommendations in the
Iydraulic Institute Standards Manual.
1he pump is caitating. Locate and correct the system problem.

1he stuing box is leaking
excessiely.
1he packing gland is not adjusted properly. 1ighten the gland nuts.
1he stuing box is not packed properly. Check the packing and repack the box.
1he mechanical seal parts are worn. Replace the worn parts.
1he mechanical seal is oerheating. Check the lubrication and cooling lines.
1he shat sleee is scored. Machine or replace the shat sleee as necessary.
1he motor requires
excessie power.
1he discharge head has dropped below the
rated point and is pumping too much liquid.
Install a throttle ale. I this does not help, then
trim the impeller diameter. I this does not help,
then contact your I11 representatie.
1he liquid is heaier than expected. Check the speciic graity and iscosity.
1he stuing-box packing is too tight. Readjust the packing. I the packing is worn, then
replace the packing.
Rotating parts are rubbing against each other. Check the parts that are wearing or proper
clearances.
1he impeller clearance is too tight. Adjust the impeller clearance.
AIignment troubIeshooting

Iorizontal ,side-to-side, alignment cannot
be obtained ,angular or parallel,.
1he drier eet are bolt-bound. Loosen the pump's hold-down bolts, and
slide the pump and drier until you
achiee horizontal alignment.
1he baseplate is not leeled properly and
is probably twisted.
1. Determine which corners o the
baseplate are high or low.
2. Remoe or add shims at the
appropriate corners.
3. Realign the pump and drier.
