Chile .vs. Ecuador match- World Football Cup 2014

With the approaching 2014 world football cup in Brazil, the football teams are desperate to find a place to classify and bring pride to their country. The 15th of October, Ecuador had a match against the Chile team in Santiago (Chile) in order to qualify. These two teams have played against each other various times and have a long history of matches. Theyve had 46 matches overall, of those, Chile has won 25 times, Ecuador has won 9 times and there has been 12 draws. In all, Ecuador has scored 45 goals and Chile has scored 91 goals against the Ecuadorian team1. Due to the results of previous matches, people expected Chile to win the game; this also meant that the Chilean team was extremely confident. The ideal score for this match was if the teams had only one goal difference so that both of them would be able to classify. This paper will review the match form both countries perspectives and then analyze the chances of each team of succeeding at the 2014 world football cup in Brazil.2 There was lots of enthusiasm for this match because it determined if the teams would classify to the World Cup. The match started in Santiago, Chile at 18:30 local time in Ecuador. The Chilean team rapidly took control of the game and had the ball most of the time. The Ecuadorian defense tried to kick the ball out of the area but they made random passes and kicks. On the other hand, the Chilean team was confident and made precise passes to secure the victory of the match, they could not risk losing and risking their place in the world cup. At the 35th minute of the first half of the game, Alexis Snchez from the Chilean team scored the first goal of the match. For the goal, he jumped and won the header against an Ecuadorian defense. Almost immediately after, in the 38th minute, Gary Medel from Chile scored another goal. Medel got the pass from a corner throw and it was easy for him to kick and score. 3After this, the first half of the game finished, leaving the Chilean people feeling extremely happy and confident. The Ecuadorian team was desperate to score a goal, if not; they were risking losing their place in the world cup because they could fall back one space in the football charts. The second half of the match started and the Ecuadorian cheer was louder than ever, eager for a goal. In the 66th minute, finally the goal came. Valencia ran across the whole pitch without anybody being able to stop him, just 5 or 10 meters before the goal area he passed the ball to Felipe Caicedo, Felipe advanced through the right side of the field, kicked and scored. Gollll!!! 4The Ecuador cheers were shouting and jumping. The match continued; both teams were happy with the scores so they mostly passed the ball back and forth between them. Nevertheless, there were some points in the game were the Chile team attacked and tried to score but the Ecuadorian defense kicked the ball out. The referee bowed the whistle and the game finished. 56

Alicia Snchez The people from Chile and Ecuador were cheering and celebrating because their teams had a place at the football world cup 2014. Nevertheless, both teams are going to have to make a huge effort in order to be able to pass the first round of elimination. For Ecuador, it would be great to get to the last sixteen. Instead for Chile it would be a great achievement to get to the last 12. It all depends on the groups each team is placed in. Some of the groups may have better teams and that would make it more difficult for both South American teams to pass; playing against European teams like England or Spain would be the biggest challenge.7 In conclusion, it was an amazing game because both Chile and Ecuador gave an enormous effort. The Chile teams scored two goals in the first half of the match, the Ecuadorian team scored their goal during the second half of the match. In my opinion, Ecuador doesnt have much chances of succeeding at the world cup because the teams it will have to play against are very advanced and skillful. Also, the previous time Ecuador qualified for the world cup; it was one of the first teams to be eliminated. I think that to succeed, Ecuador needs to improve their defense because it was very weak during this match. Something in favor of the Ecuadorian team is that they are used to playing at a high altitude and playing at sea level (in Brazil) will be very easy; this will give Ecuador an advantage over the European teams.
