Assignment Two Draft Background/ Introduction: As it is a commonly presented issue within our modern society, as well as, relates

to the figured world I had originally selected, I chose to analyze the truth behind the proper age for a child to begin school. In addition, while doing so I paid particular attention to the reasoning behind what is considered a proper educational setting. For example, while the clients in my moms daycare may feel she provides the necessary, close-knitted care that children ineed, there seems to be a lingering opposition that believes children can only learn while in a formal school environment. While previously, attending school was not a major concerning issue, now it is considered the crucial point of a childs developmental process. Parents have become too concerned with the school their children attend, and start doing so at a very young age. Many even go to great extremes to assure their child a spot in an ideal school to ensure success later in their life. From personal experience, I have come to see that the setting a child is exposed to is not necessarily as important as the quality of the care they receive. This usually refers to the provider or educator who is responsible for ensuring the childrens proper progression. For example, as a provider, my mom has made sure to ensure the childrens mental and emotional development. This task is accomplished through acquiring and beholding the essential materials and skills to enhance a childs development. Literature Review: For many providers, taking care of children has been a task performed for countless years. While conducting my interview, I discovered that my mom had been in the field for well over fourteen years. Yet, she had only owned her own facilities for about six years. As a society,

Comment [J1]: Overall, the paper is good. You have multiple strong points. The arguments shared are also very solidified throughout the entire paper. However, try and the paper not be so repetitive or dull. Add more of your personal experience with this topic and describe the importance it has in the world as a whole. Comment [J2]: Make sure to add direct quotes from some of the articles. Also, elaborate on what they mean to your topic as a whole. Comment [J3]: Make the beginning share your own personal experience/ background with the topic. Dont simply state you chose it because of its importance; elaborate on how you are or can be affected by it.

Comment [J4]: In this section, there are a lot of new ideas or concepts explained. However, try to incorporate some of your own ideas, rather than simply restating what others have written. Comment [J5]: Throughout the paper, there seem to be some repetitive words or phrases; especially, in the literature review section. Try and rephrase this areas, so that the overall paper flows better.

we must ask ourselves is a person who has spent the majority of their life in a certain field qualified to interpret the rules and demands at a job site? In order to determine so, the public must analyze the background and accomplishments behind the provider at hand. The articles I selected to use while conducting this research assignment were helpful due to the insight they provided regarding the importance of an educational atmosphere in a young childs life. For the most part, the articles explain the teaching methods observed within a preschool setting. They also go into detail to describe the impact that implementing a specific teaching method may have within the classroom. That is to say, the authors try to explain the importance of both the daycare as a figured world for the children, as well as, the multiple artifacts used when attempting to gain structure. In his article, Modeling the Impacts of Child Care Quality on Childrens Preschool Cognitive Development, Duncan does a very good job at explaining when a child is ready to move on from a daycare to preschool environment. In our current era, it seems as though parents are paying more meticulous attention as to when their child is ready to move on. For the most part, this results from fear that their child will be left behind from the other children upon starting preschool or officially moving on to kindergarten: elementary school. This source helps in comprehending why it is that parents think this way through research that has already been conducted by professors. They are able to determine what is required for a child to progress at a certain age. For example, the fact that all children are different plays a huge role in this study. The literacy practices involved in a ch ilds developmental process are also outlined within this article. An important part of a childs life within a school setting is the curriculum implemented. Through this curriculum, the children are able to learn essential concepts for their development.
Comment [J6]: Although the literature review section may include your personal thoughts towards the research articles, elaborate on the point they are making. The best way to do this may be by dividing this section into the main themes/ concepts.

The article, A Cluster Randomized Trial to Evaluate the Efficacy of a School-Based Behavioral Intervention for Health Promotion Among Children Aged 3 to 5, explains the importance of certain literacy practices when trying to enhance a childs learning potential. Furthermore, the article discusses the possible outcomes that may arise from different styles of curriculums. Authors, Penalvo, Santos-Beneit, Sotos-Prieto, Martinez, Rodriguez, Franco and Fuster attempt to reach the same argument in their article, yet focus more on the differences that may arise from school-based learning as opposed to home-centered. Specifically, they analyze unique behavioral differences that may arise within children ages three to five. In essence, the article lists and describes the discourse communities that may present themselves in a more formal school environment. However, the article also provides examples of discourse communities that may form within a smaller-type setting, thus amplifying ones views on the educational world. In addition, within the current scientific world the issue of early education is a highly prevalent one. Many believe that the younger a child is when introduced to a learning environment, the more they will benefit in the future. This idea is presented within Neyfeld, Fuccillo, and Greenfields article as one that deals with the unique areas of a childs brain. It analyzes how early stimulation can bring about more prominent mental development. In addition, the article allows one to further inquire on the educational subjects that may be influenced through early brain stimulation. Similarly, Steins article is very efficient in its ability to briefly describe the importance of a childs introduction to education at an early age. The article analyzes the major progression of a child by having done so. As well as, discusses the idea that environment is not as important as level of education that the child receives. The article in whole does an excellent job at providing insight on what truly is necessary to ensure a childs ideal progression.
Comment [J7]: The sentences on future research should be added in the conclusion portion of the paper. Here, it would be best if you only express the ideas shared in the articles. Comment [J8]: This sentence is somewhat confusing. Depending on whether youre trying to emphasize or add on a point, rephrase it and make it clearer.

In the article, Predictors of Home-Based Child Care Providers Participation in Professional Development Workshops and Coaching, the authors thoroughly explain the significance of the providers role in smaller learning environment. The certain techniques and methods a homecare provider uses are crucial to the development of the child. As well as, the article discusses the idea of beholding a certain level of education from the behalf of the provider. Furthermore, the article allows for consideration on the correlation that may exist between a students progression with a more prepared provider versus a less prepared one. On the same note, in the article A Comparison of Preschool and First Grade Teachers Views about School Readiness, authors, Sahin, Sak and Tuncer state that depending on the environment, an educator may view a childs learning progression distinctly. In th eir article, the authors emphasize the difference on the extent to which a child is prepared at two points within a childs educational journey: preschool and first grade. The article discusses the specific set marks that must be present at both levels, and the educational importance they play. This scientific article also offers various theories that are present in the developmental journey of a child and the importance and opinions of their educators. Likewise, author, Vassallo, takes into consideration the role a parent or legal guardian plays within a childs life. His article does so by comparing and contrasting the differences in child development between a child with invested and noninvested parents. It states the importance of the parents as actors in their childs life and development, as well as, provides suggestions for further progression. Whereas, both Samuels and Sparks, present the reasoning behind why many believe inhome childcare centers are not as adequate in their articles. Samuels explains the multiple literacy practices that are taken into consideration when coming to this conclusion. Although Samuels mainly discusses the negative aspects of home childcare environments, he also includes

the theories behind those who think home childcare centers better adequate. Yet, Sparks goes into further detail by highlighting the essential characteristics of proper social-emotional learning among children in home-based centers. He manages to do so in a way which also describes how a childs learning environment may impact this developmental feature. A key part of this article is the section which discusses the various artifacts taken into consideration when analyzing a childs learning development. Enter the Conversation: Although from observing my moms progress in the childcare development field I have gathered a deep appreciation for in-home based childcare, the articles I used throughout my research solidified this understanding. The ideas presented within the various articles, correlated with the actions I have always been presented with in my moms daycares. In other words, the care the children received and thus the progression that followed was explained in writing in the articles mentioned previously. In the article about the executive functions in early learning, I enjoy reading about the various benefits that are presented the earlier a child is presented within an educational system. I have personally witnessed this theory come true multiple times within my moms daycares. For example, until this year there was a young girl named, Ava, enrolled in the daycare fulltime. Ava had started coming to the daycare since she was three month old. At the time she moved on to kindergarten, she was four years old. During those four years, Ava had acquired proper writing and speaking abilities in both English and Spanish. So much so, that she was able to pass a statewide enrollment exam, which allowed her to enter kindergarten a year earlier than all the other children. I cannot help but think that this success in Avas life was due to being exposed to an enriched educational environment from an early age.

In addition, I must fully agree with the point that the authors of the article Predictors of Home-Based Childcare Providers Participation in Professional Developmental Workshops and Coaching, try to convey. The ultimate triumph in ensuring a childs educational development, can be ensured through the level of preparedness the provider beholds. They are the ones that hold the responsibility of transferring the necessary skills and concepts needed to grow on to the minds of the young ones theyre educating. In my case for example, my mom has had plenty of years to fully acquire not only the necessary materials needed to run a daycare, but also the skills and techniques needed to work beside children. However, at the same time, I must be straightforward and admit that I fully disagree with the purpose behind Samuels and Sparks articles. While they argued that home-based child care systems cannot be seen as efficient due to their lack of resources, I cannot help but think that is subjective to the individual daycare center. Once again, I must include my moms daycare as primary evidence that this is not true. Her daycare has been active for six years, of which she has been a five star rated facility for five years. Now, in order to fully understand the importance of the rating system, I must explain it a bit further. Every three years, the state of North Carolina randomly comes and inspects every daycare facility registered in their system. Now during this three year interval, every owner is assigned a variety of helpful aids; they range from consultants to materials assistants. These aids, in essence are there to help the provider gain all the concepts and materials necessary to become a three or more star rated facility. With five stars being the ultimate level of completion, it also implies much work. A five star provider must behold a certain amount of college education as well as training hours. Therefore, I cannot concur with the viewpoint that Samuels and Sparks articles expresses. The literacy practices applied to a facility depend on the provider and their overall commitment.
Comment [J10]: Once again, dont be so harsh on the works of previous writers. Although it is okay to share your input, do so in a way that demonstrates you respect others ideas. Comment [J9]: Try and not be so biased. Although it is okay to share your point of view for this part, dont make it seem so extreme or harsh towards the authors.

Conclusion/ So What: In short, for this section rather than repeat the points previously covered for verbatim, I will simply go over the benefits having a child in a home-based facility can bring about. 1. Early education brings about positive results throughout a childs development later in life. 2. The atmosphere they are in allows for direct contact and acknowledgement of weaknesses or strengths. 3. Studies show that children enrolled in in-home daycare centers demonstrate better behavioral skills than those enrolled elsewhere. 4. The home-based teaching atmosphere allows for a deeper analysis of both the instructors attributes, as well as, the parents involvement in their childs educational career.

Comment [J11]: Make this section about the possible solutions available to fix the debate/ problem at hand. Also, make sure to incorporate how society would benefit from these suggestions.

Comment [J12]: These points are really the same ideas shared throughout the beginning portion of the draft. Incorporate some new ideas or concepts. They can be related to the suggestions on possible solutions for the problems at hand.

The comments provided on my paper were very helpful for the editing process. I agree with what my group members had to say. I can see that the points I try to emphasize are strong, yet I must go into more detail. Furthermore, I should try and incorporate my own experience within the literature review section. This would enhance the content of the paper, rather than simply reiterating what others have previously said. Lastly, I will make sure to at least three comments throughout the paper. Yet, I will try and personalize with them.
