Message from President

IPEs engagement with long term management education leading to the award of various Post Graduate Diplomas has received wide appreciation by the end-users in industry, government and social sector enterprises. I am happy to know that the Class of 2014 will complete its instructions and practical training by March 2014. The Institute continuously endeavors to update its courses, to use appropriate teaching methodology and receive feedback from the end-users about the content, quality and usefulness of the courses. The participants are exposed to the appreciation courses, basic and advanced management modules. They build up the industry-connect through the long term and the short term projects, industrial visits, study tours, personality development programmes, management games, internet research and week-end lectures by captains of industry. The CAPSTONE Simulation and the courses on ERP have been introduced to further intensify this feature. IPE A Prole
he Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE) was established in 1964, as an autonomous non prot society at the initiative of Mr S S Khera, ICS (the then Cabinet Secretary, Government of India) and Dr D S Reddy (the then Vice Chancellor, Osmania University) with the idea of a research institution that would undertake a systematic and sustained study of issues relevant to the formulation of policies pertaining to Public Enterprises. Dr.V.V.Ramanadham, the then Professor and Head, Department of Commerce, Osmania University, with the active support and guidance provided by Dr. D.S Reddy, translated Mr.Kheras concept into a reality. Dr P Rama Rao, a distinguished scientist is the present President of the Institute. He was formerly Secretary to Department of Science and Technology, Government of India; Secretary, Department of Ocean Development, GOI; Chairman, Atomic Energy Regulatory Board and former Vice-Chancellor, University of Hyderabad. He has been appointed a Member of the Atomic Energy Commission, Government of India. He brings with him varied and rich experience to guide the destination of IPE committed to excellence, be it in management education, consultancy, research and training. Over the last 50 years, the Institute has widened the area of its work by diversifying from Research into Consultancy, Executive Training and Management Education.
Milestone in IPEs Journey......

The Institute will be entering the Golden Jubilee year in 2014 and during its long journey the institute handled many prestigious assignments including the 6th Pay Commission work for PSUs apart from being a think tank to the Various Ministries of Govt. of India and the Planning Commission. The Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Institute got kick started with this lecture by Dr D Subbarao RBI Governor to be followed by several events like Golden Jubilee Distinguished Lecture Series, Golden Jubilee Conferences etc. And the Celebrations will culminate with a 3-Day International Summit which would discuss issues on economic development including the impact of international scenario, poverty eradication, sustainable development etc.
Consultancy
Undertaking consultancy assignments is one of the specialized domains of IPE. Consultancy services are offered for both National and International organizations, that include the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), Common Wealth Secretariat, Department for International Development (DFID), Government of UK, International Center for Promotion of Enterprises (ICPE), Central and State Governments, Public and Private sector enterprises. The institute has carried out public sector / service reform assignments concerning various sectors, major Government departments, and municipal services, poverty alleviation programmes and privatization. Some of the organizations for which consultancy assignments have been recently carried out include the A P Government, Consultancy Development Centre (under DSIR, GoI), MOIL, Neyveli Lignite Corporation, Bharat Dynamics Ltd. and Goa Shipyard Ltd.
Research
IPE has been originally conceived as a research institution devoted to systematic and sustained study of issues relevant to the formulation, implementation, review, monitoring and assessment of policies and programs concerning public enterprise. Subsequently, keeping in view the changing scenario, the focus is not only on Public enterprises, but Private entities as well. The Institute is partly funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India recognized the Institute as a Centre of Excellence in Social Science research in 1976. The Institute has an outstanding record of delivering the inputs in time with application orientation. The research studies of IPE have been extensively used by the Committee of Public Undertakings (COPU), several ministries of the Govt. of India, Planning Commission, SCOPE, Department of Public Enterprises, Comptroller and Auditor General of India and by nance and pay revision committees. The institute has collaboration with many National and International organizations. The faculty of IPE constantly engages in research projects and the major sponsors include the ICSSR, AICTE, UGC and

DST. IPE also publishes 9 in house journals including the IPE journal which is the only refereed journal on public sector issues in India.
Training
The Institute has been organizing Training Programmes for the past 50 years for ofcers of Public Sector, Private Sector, State and Central Government undertakings. IPE has conducted nearly 100 programmes for over 1600 IAS, IFS and other government ofcers. IPE has trained over 43000 practicing managers in various types of programmes over the years. During 2012-13, about 64 programmes were conducted including 19 in company programmes which are customized programmes to suit the needs of various organizations. Programmes have spanned over all the functional areas of management and various sectoral disciplines. Customized programmes on General Management, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, Information Technology, Operational Excellence etc have been conducted for executives of MOIL, MECON Ltd., BHEL, Dept. of Animal Husbandry, SCCL, ECIL, Powergrid, NTPC, Oil India Ltd, NLC,BDL, APSRTC, etc and ofcers of different departments of Govts of AP ,Karnataka & Maharashtra. A few programmes on Research Methodology for Researchers also were conducted last year. Participants in the various programmes have come from all the levels: from Jr. Executives to CMDs. IPEs Training activities have added good value to its participants and have gained good acceptance from its clients that is backed by the increasing number of programmes that we have been doing each year.

In Pursuit of Excellence...
With the experience gained in Research, Consultancy and Training activities and taking into consideration the ever-increasing need for professionally trained personnel by the industry, IPE started part-time evening program namely MBA (PE) in 1981-82. The program afliated to the Osmania University and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is tailored to meet the specic needs of practicing managers. The selection of the candidates is through Integrated Common Entrance Test (ICET) of Andhra Pradesh Government. Since inception more than 1,000 executives have pursued the MBA (PE) programme. With this success, in the year 1995 the Institute started a two-year full time Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) recognized equivalent to MBA by the Association of Indian Universities to provide skilled human resources to meet the growing requirements of the Industry. Subsequently, keeping in view the emerging opportunities and to cater to the industry requirements we added new courses namely PGDM-RM, PGDM-BIF, PGDM-IB, PGDM-BT, PGDM-HRM & PGDM-HHM. All these courses are approved by AICTE and we are in the process of getting MBA equivalence from Association of Indian

Universties for these courses as well. The selection of candidates for all these courses is through CAT, MAT, XAT, ATMA, CMAT & GMAT conducted by the IIMs. Since inception more than 2,000 students graduated from IPE and are placed in reputed organizations.
Location and Facilities at the Campus

IPE has been functioning in its present campus, since 1964, situated within the picturesque Osmania University campus on a 5 acre site. The present campus has well furnished Conference halls, Classrooms, an Auditorium with a seating capacity of 500, Library, Canteen, etc. All the modern facilities that enhance learning experiences are provided in the campus. With an idea to prepare for the growth, IPE will be shifting to a new campus situated on 21 acres of land located 25 km north of Secunderabad. The design of the campus that will include hostels to house 400 students has been completed with a view to provide an exciting and enriching experience to the students and other residents. State-of-art class rooms with seating capacity of 70 per class and equipped with latest audio Visual, Computing and real time Data Streaming facilities. Discussion rooms for 10-15 with furnishings are designed as part of class room infrastructure.

25 km from Secunderabad Close to NALSAR & BITS campuses. 3.5 lakh sq.ft. of modern building covering all amenities. Lush green campus very near to Shameerpet Lake. 200 hostel rooms which can accommodate 400 boys and girls (single occupancy). The buildings are energy efficient and GRIHA/LEED norms compliant.

The Campus is networked with Wi-Fi. The Library is digitised and accessible for 24x7. Auditorium of 500 seater capacity equipped with latest Audio and Video facilities.
Library and Documentation Centre

The library is the knowledge hub of the Institute and reects its commitment to provide the best possible learning resources. The Library resources includes books, DVDs, journal articles and also government reports like Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), Government of India, the Annual Survey of Public Enterprises brought out by the Ministry of Industry, Government of India, and also the evaluation reports brought out by the different State Bureau of Public Enterprises. It has an excellent collection of both printed and electronic material. It offers a range of services including reference and consultation, membership and circulation, document delivery, resource sharing, information alert service, user awareness programmes and web based services. The IPE Library provides web-based access to over 10,000 full text journals and 6 databases 24 x 7 on institute-wide network. The Library subscribes to the following online databases: EBSCO, Emerald, Jstor, IBID, Capitaline, Proquest, Prowess CMIE, and Indiastat.com. The IPE library has a robust collection of over 50,000 books and 3500 bound volumes and it annually receives more than 250 International / National journals. Though library at IPE basically caters to its faculty and students, With a view to ensure optimum utilization its library resources management has decided to open the membership to other users as well.
IT Facilities
The Institute of Public Enterprise has state-of-the-art Information Technology tools that are designed to meet the computing and communication needs of the Institute. IPE has a fast, reliable and rugged computer network of more than 300 Nodes. This network has Gigabit ber backbone connectivity to all the blocks and departments. The Institute is providing internet facility through leased line of 4 Mbps

for fast, reliable and uninterrupted internet services. The entire IPE campus has been Wi-Fi enabled providing 24x7x365 internet access to its students and employees.
The IPE Advantage

The Institute is fast emerging as the leading centre of management in India and has already started moving in that direction by launching number of new courses. Further, it proposes to launch an Executive PhD programme, integrated PGDM, PGDM-Rural Management, PGDM-Infrastructure Management. IPE and Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana (FELU), Ljubljana (Slovenia) are coming together for offering a two-year PGDM Program (PGDM). The PGDM will comprise study modules which students will undergo partly at IPE and partly at FELU.

To sustain its growing activities the Institute started building a new residential campus at Shameerpet village in 21 acres of land and which is nearing completion. It is situated at about 30 kms from old airport and Secunderabad Railway Station. The proposed campus consists of academic block, hostels, administration block, library, MDP block, food court, and auditorium and sports facilities. The academic block will have state-of-art classrooms and separate hostel block for girls and boys. Some of the features which distinguish IPE in its quest to emerge as a leading B-School, among others are as under. The Institute is having faculty strength of 55 drawn from different disciplines so as to offer the multi-disciplinary approach which the Management domain requires.Further, it has 02 adjunct professors, 14 visiting professors, 10 full time doctoralresearch fellows who provide the requisite support to sustain the enhanced activities. The Institute follows an integrated approach of research, training, consulting and teaching providing inputs to industry, Government, NGOs and International organizations by widening and deepening networking and creating human capital motivated to contribute to the Indian economy to accelerate its growth momentum. Institute believes in constantly upgrading its most important Human Resource i.e., Faculty. Towards this end, Institute decided to expose them to the best of the Universities in India and abroad and already 40 faculty & Staff members were sent abroad and further propose to send more in the times to come. Institute rmly believes that collaboration is the key to success. In this direction IPE has entered into an MOU with EGADE business school, Mexico, for Student and Faculty exchange program. More such fruitful and mutually benecial collaborations are being planned for. The Institute has already been recognized as Centre of Excellence by ICSSR Ministry of HRD, Government of India in Management Research. Accordingly to further its research related activities especially the PGDM Programme, the Institute started granting National Doctoral Fellowships in Management which are of high value in the country. These fellowships carry a stipend of Rs. 25,000/- pm in the rst year, 28,000/- during subsequent 2 years apart from 30% HRA and a contingency grant of Rs.15, 000/-per annum to support the eld work, purchase of books etc. Institute rmly believes that merit needs to be encouraged. Accordingly, it has instituted the scheme of Merit and Merit Cum-Means Scholarships to extend nancial support to students pursuing their studies. Contemporary curriculum structure keeping in view the changing aspirations /needs of the industry, the Institute periodically revises its syllabus and offers new optional subjects. For this purpose the Institute has set up an advisory board consisting of eminent personalities drawn from academia and Industry who periodically meet and provide the required inputs for revising the curriculum from time to time so as to keep it industry relevant. PGDM Program Gets MBA Equivalence Status On the basis of the recommendations made by a visiting team from Association of Indian Universities. IPEs two-year fulltime PGDM Program has been accorded equivalence status to that of a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree of an Indian University until 2014. Further, the institute has applied for equivalence status to PGDM-RM course and likely to be granted this year. This facilitates students to go for higher studies.

Fast Forward
As we are aware Management education has missed the burning issues of business relevance and become more about mathematical elegance and theoretical knowledge. Keeping this in view and also other social commitments, the Institute has set for itself the vision of becoming an Institute of choice for social science research and management education and contributes to the excellence of organizations and society. Accordingly the Institute wishes to move to the top 20 B-schools by launching a multipronged approach through a mixture of mass media and activation to brand IPE in the minds of its various stakeholders. Towards this direction, Institute also proposes to enhance its Industry - Institute interaction apart from utilizing its alumni base.
Centers
Centre for CSR
The Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (CCSR) has been set up during 2011 to promote interdisciplinary and collaborative research and document case studies in thrust areas of CSR dealing with contemporary issues and challenges. It is also intended to integrate the existing body of knowledge, systems, structures, models and mechanisms associated with different CSR initiatives by interfacing with industry and academia. The centre intends to disseminate information about the latest happenings in the CSR eld to the people engaged in policy making, policy analysis, policy research, practitioners and other stakeholders.
Research Cell on Regulatory Bodies

The compulsions of liberalization have led to the formation of regulatory commissions whose decisions were not supposed to be based on cheap politics but sound economics. In India many such regulatory commissions were formed in various sectors, power, telecom, banking insurance, etc. Since the formation of regulatory bodies there has been debate on their functioning and on their real independence. Issues related to regulation of insurance sector, stock exchanges, and pension, also beg solution. It is with this end in view the Institute of Public Enterprise, has set up a research cell on regulatory bodies. The activities of the cell include Inviting Occasional papers, Quarterly/Half Yearly News Letter: With a theme each time, Publication of books, organizing Conferences & Round Tables and carrying out research projects.
The Centre for Governance and Public policy

The centre for governance and public policy aspires to be a centre of excellence in research and consultancy in the area of governance and public policy, bridge between academia, the public sector and civil society through collaborations, professional training and applied research and provide high quality, multi-disciplinary and professionally relevant education in public policy and Governance. The focus areas include Public Policy, Public Administration (focus on Civil Service Reforms), Service Delivery (Social Accountability tools: Citizens Charters, Right to Information Act, Report Cards), Performance Management, Urban Governance, Health Systems Strengthening and e Governance.
Research cell on Public Enterprises and Disinvestment

The research cell on Disinvestment has been established to undertake research on the policy and procedures followed for disinvestment, utilization of resources raised through disinvestment and importantly, the contribution that it can make to enhance the efciency of the working of the enterprise. The cell would take up the following activities: Inviting Occasional Papers, Publication of Books, Organizing Conferences, Round Table, writing Research papers on Case Studies on Disinvestment would be invited from renowned academicians and practitioners from abroad and publishing monographs.

Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM)

Launched in 1995, the Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDM) approved by the AICTE, and recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as equivalent to MBA, is a two year full -time programme which is vocationally relevant and designed to educate, train and equip students with managerial skills to lead and transform organizations to meet the challenges of globalization and competition in the current millennium. The programme comprises of four

The rst two terms focus on foundation and application aspects of management and the last two terms focus on specialization and integration with global developments in different areas of management. The Post Graduate Diploma in Management Retail and Marketing (PGDM-RM) is a two year full time programme started in the year 2007 designed to accelerate learning in Management in general and Marketing & Retail Management in particular. The programme structure is designed to meet the needs of the industry and is in conformity with the AICTE guidelines. IPE is an academic member of Retailers Association of India (RAI). Five batches have passed out in ying colours and are serving varied industries such as Retail, Banking, Insurance, Manufacturing, Information Technology etc. both in public and private sectors. Students of PGDM-RM are working in companies such as Tata Consultancy Services, Deloitte India, Videocon Industries Ltd., Asian Paints Ltd., Axis Bank, ORACLE, Cognizant, SBI Life Insurance Co. The Banking, Insurance and Financial Services Sector is the most happening sector in the Indian Economy today and is characterized by globalization, consolidation and convergence. In this scenario, innovation is a major driving force for achieving competitive advantage through creation of new business opportunities. Hence, this course has been designed to meet the changing requirements of Banking, Insurance and Financial Services Domain. Apart from getting strong insights in to all functional areas of the management, the student is well trained and equipped to meet the ever-challenging needs of the corporate sector in general and Banking, Insurance and Financial Services Sector in particular. PGDM International Business is a management programme aimed at imparting students knowledge of not only a standard MBA level programme but also additional knowledge of International Business related subjects / courses covering international or global aspects of Finance, Marketing, HR, Operations, Systems domains. Such additional courses/ subjects include Global Marketing Management, International Brand Management, Supply Chain Management, Export-Import Procedures & Documentation, Global Finance &Foreign Currency Risk & Management, Enterprise Risk Management, Innovation Management & New Product Development, etc. Since most of the businesses nowadays get transformed into global businesses, students of management must be exposed to some essential international business subjects/ courses as possible. Hence, HR managers have to play an active role in the strategic planning and decision making at their organizations. Accordingly, the PostGraduate Diploma in ManagementHuman Resource Management (PGDMHRM), a two-year full time AICTE approved program is envisaged as the highest quality program in the area of human resource management and designed to provide eligible, suitable, and competent Human Relations (HR) professionals with sufcient knowledge of business to all industrial sectors.

Hospital management as a career option has received big boost from the booming corporatization and growth of hospitals and diagnostics service centre in India. There are critical challenges faced by hospitals both in public and private sectors in terms of systemic gaps, process gaps, and manpower challenges and so on. In order to improve day to day management of hospitals and for better service delivery in the hospitals, there is an urgent need to develop adequate manpower in this area of specialization and train eligible persons to take up jobs in this particular area of health management. Hence, the Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad has designed a specialized course to meet the growing needs of the health sector in India and abroad which will be called, Postgraduate Diploma in Health Care and Hospital Management (PGDM-HHM).

IPE has a strong tradition of nurturing budding professionals who after completion of the course will be ready to face the challenges of the corporate world. This kind of experience is facilitated by the Industry exposure gained during summer internship and long- term project. Apart from these, there is a constant ow of inputs from practicing professionals who visit the institute regularly to attend seminars and conferences, which adds considerable value to the students in this regard. We are sponsoring our students to attend National and International Conferences by paying their not only registration fee but also their Travel, Boarding and Lodging.
Summer Internship
Students of the various two year post graduate programmes at the Institute of Public Enterprise are expected to undertake a summer internship at the end of the second semester. The duration of the internship is between six to eight weeks, and this, each year is between mid April and mid June. Students are required to associate themselves with an organization and learn by seeing, doing and comprehending, over and above listening, interacting and discussing in the classroom. At the end of their association with the organization, students are required to submit a report indicating their ndings and suggestions. The opportunity provided to the students sensitise them to organizational realities. While the students progress is monitored by his or her mentor at the Institute, host organizations, where feasible, assign an employee to handhold the student during the six eight week period. Over the years, leading organizations in the public and private sector as also not-for-prot organizations have extended internship opportunities to our students.
Long Term Project

In addition to the summer internship project, students pursuing the various programmes are expected to undertake a long term project. The duration of the long term project is four months and it commences on the completion of the third semester examinations in the month of November each year. The students select a problem for in-depth analysis and make recommendations for managerial action. Insights provided by the students benet the organization studied and the four month interaction with organization ofcials heightens the students awareness of organizational realities.
Samathis
Samathi is an ideal platform where experience meets enthusiasm hence called Meeting of the nest minds and it is IPEs tradition of extending learning beyond the connes of the classrooms. Samathis are organized annually as a series of events focusing on various functional domains that provides students a forum to interact with the captains of the corporate world. Intra collegiate competitions are conducted on the aspects like paper presentations, quiz, cross words, best manager, best sales man and woman, JAM, painting etc. to sharpen the skills. Samathi for the year 2012 was organized during October 2012 focusing on various domains such as Finance, Operations, HR, and Marketing. More than 15 guests from various business establishments came and shared their thoughts, Knowledge and experiences.

Students of IPE organize every year a National level B-School event titled SANSKRITI for postgraduate management students in India. The event provides an opportunity for prospective managers to interface and display their cognizance in front of the industry captains. Placement Programme: The Class of 2014

Placement Committee
The Placement Committee of the Institute contacts and assists the companies in the recruitment process. The Committee comprises of the Chairman, Placement Committee, Placement Coordinator, All PG Coordinators. Student Placement Committee assists this committee. The Placement Coordinator is the convenor of the placement committee. The students will be allowed to report to their duties from end of December 2013 onwards, depending on the need of the recruiter. To conrm participation, the organizations are requested to complete the Placement Response Sheet provided at the end of this brochure and mail it back at the earliest to enable the early allotment of dates.
Guidelines for Final Placements

The following guidelines have been framed by the Institute to ensure transparent participation in the placement activities for the class of 2012-2014. Your cooperation will be highly appreciated. 1. Details regarding the organizations placement requirements can be forwarded to the Placement Coordinator. These details are essential for scheduling the placement process. 2. Information about the company in the form of brochures, pamphlets, write-ups etc. may be sent to the Placement Coordinator along with the job prole. 3. Pre-Placement talks will be held at the Institute during which the companies make presentations about their operations and job prole. 4. The Placement Coordinator will forward to the organization the Curriculum Vitae of all the interested students to participate in the placement process. 5. The recruitment process will be held in the campus, but if the organization wishes that the students should come to their ofce, this requirement can also be met. 6. The company must declare the results while on the Campus. 7. Once a student accepts an offer he/she is not eligible to participate in the further selection process of any other company. 8. All the offer letters to the students by the organization must be channeled through the Placement Coordinator. Duplicate copies of the appointment letters duly signed and accepted by the students will be returned to the organization. 9.
