Program Proposal: Waldorf West ESL (English as a Second Language) Class Charles County has developed into a culturally

diverse area, with many local residents having moved here from another country !here is a growing demand for classes and resources for the community to "ecome more familiar and comforta"le with the written and spo#en English language $ecently many patrons have as#ed if the li"rary provides this type of service Waldorf West will partner with the Waldorf Lifelong Learning Center (LLC) to provide ESL classes at the li"rary % will attend a course to earn certification to teach ESL % will then team up with a Spanish spea#ing colleague (as many of the LLC students spea# Spanish) and reach out to the LLC, which we #now currently provides adult education and ESL classes to the pu"lic We will visit the LLC to meet their current adult students and introduce them to the li"rary&s various services 'fter our visit, the LLC students will "e invited to (oin us at Waldorf West the following wee# for a tour of the li"rary )eeting the LLC students will serve two main purposes: * ) %ntroduce the local adult students to the li"rary + ) 'dvertise the upcoming Waldorf West ESL classes Waldorf West li"rary will have a direct partnership with the LLC !he LLC&s ESL classes currently have a waiting list of over *+, people, and the LLC will promote and offer the li"rary&s classes to those who are on the waiting list !he class will ta#e place at the Waldorf West li"rary on Wednesday evenings, and will run for *, consecutive wee#s !he class target audience will "e those who have a familiarity with the English language, "ut would li#e to increase their comfort level using English in everyday situations !he class will "e taught using an interactive approach, encouraging students to participate in solo and group activities that will help to strengthen their s#ills and gain confidence ' num"er of factors will "e used in evaluating the success of the class: * ) 'ttendance, optimally -.*, students per session + ) Participation, successfully engaging the students in class activities / ) Progress, noticing increased a"ility level of students during the course of the sessions Charles County Pu"lic Li"rary )ission Statement: !o ac0uire and ma#e availa"le information, "oo#s, e1periences, and other li"rary materials which most closely match the needs of our service community, the residents of Charles County Statement of Program 2itting Li"rary )ission: !he Waldorf West ESL Class will meet the needs of the local community "y providing a means of educating those who strive to improve their English communication s#ills
