During the Exchange, we discussed


about the Traditional
Architecture of our countries.
We presented and compared
the techniques around the
Mediterranean taking into
consideration our culture.

We made a field visit in Apollonia and Kastro in order to observe


the traditional buildings and discussed about the techniques
that had been used for their construction and the importance
of energy efficiency.

During the gorge field visit from Apollonia towards Kamares that was led
by Ms. Maria Konioti from MONUMENTA, we observed the use of
traditional materials and the variety of the constructions within the
boundaries of the gorge and the way they form the landscape. We
discussed about the impacts of human intervention in the natural
environmental and the significant role of stone walls and dovecotes.

We also discussed about the Natural Protected Areas of our


countries and the Natura 2000 European ecological network.
We described the legal framework of protection and the
management of the Natura Areas and the challenges for the
future. Within this framework and the contribution of Ms. Ronia
Anastasiadi, a local eco-guide from Sifnos, we made a field visit
of NATURA area of the island.

We visited the bioclimatic


information kiosk that was
constructed in the entrance of
the NATURA site of Sifnos by
MEDITERRANNEAN SOS
Network and the cooperation of
young architects in 2006. There,
we helped to maintain the kiosk
under the guidance of the
external expert of MEDSOS, Ms.
Dimitra Siatitsa. In this way we
understood better the theory
of bioclimatic practices
through practical action.

We split into mixed working groups and we discussed about the


Role of NGO for the protection of natural environment and
saving of energy. We exchanged ideas on how the civil society
should be encouraged and become active by taking initiatives
and promoting solutions.

During a morning session we


realised intercultural
activities. We played
intercultural games in order
to enhance the dialogue
between cultures, to learn
about different countries
and break social or other
cultural stereotypes.

One of our most excited activities was the intercultural event that
we organised at local level with the contribution of Cultural
association of Sifnos. The local community and young
participants presented traditional music and dances from their
countries, exchanged cultural information and experienced
different customs.

Our cultural nights were full of entertainment, energy, dancing


and fun. During the cultural nights we enjoyed traditional
weddings, customs and dances from each country. It was the
best way to finish our creative day. Everybody was looking
forward to enjoying the surprises that each group had prepared
especially for its cultural night.
