VK-8M System Update

Note: Updating the Operating System of the VK-8M will reset the unit back to factory settings. All custom settings will be erased. Please save any custom settings by executing a Bulk Dump to a MIDI sequencer while it is recording. Refer to page 51 of the VK-8M Owners Manual for more information. Tools Required VK-8M VK-8M Update Files MIDI Sequencer (SMF compatible) Use a sequencer capable of correctly playing back Standard MIDI Files or a computer equipped with a MIDI interface. Update Procedure: This version of the VK-8M update requires updating the Boot version of the VK8M. You will first follow the procedure for updating the Boot version BEFORE you update the Program version of the VK-8M. Note that both procedures are the same, the only difference is the file that you send to the VK-8M. Updating the Boot Version of the VK-8M: 1. Use a MIDI cable to connect the VK-8Ms MIDI IN to the sequencers MIDI OUT. 2. Hold down PERCUSSION [2ND/3RD] and PERCUSSION [SOFT] and turn on the power. Note: The D BEAM [ON] lamp lights up in yellow. 3. Load and playback the VKM8BT01.MID file located in the for_BOOT folder included in this download. The D BEAM [ON] lamp lights in red while the update is being written to the VK-8M. Do not turn off the power while this red indicator is lit. 4. After the song is finished and writing is complete, the D BEAM [ON] lamp turns green. 5. Turn off the VK-8M. 6. Power on normally to proceed to Updating the Program Version of the VK-8M.

Updating the Program Version of the VK-8M 1. Use a MIDI cable to connect the VK-8Ms MIDI IN to the sequencers MIDI OUT. 2. Hold down PERCUSSION [2ND/3RD] and PERCUSSION [SOFT] and turn on the power. Note: The D BEAM [ON] lamp lights up in yellow. 3. Load and play back the sequence of MIDI files from the sequencer, starting with the file VKM???01.MID and ending with the file VKM???12.MID. These files are located in the for_SYSTEM folder included in the download. Note: It is important that the files be played back in the proper order. VKM???01.mid VKM???02.mid : : VKM???11.mid VKM???12.mid Playback of all of these SMFs takes approximately ten minutes. The MIDI indicator flashes while the files are being played back. The D BEAM [ON] lamp lights in red while the update is being written to the VK-8M. Do not turn off the power while this red indicator is lit. 4. After the last song is finished and writing is complete, the D BEAM [ON] lamp turns green. 5. Turn off the VK-8M. 6. Power on normally to resume normal operation.
