Section 1. The name of this organization shall be Aiya. Article II Purpose of the Organization Section 1. Practice the art of Asian style action choreography Section 2. Explore various mediums of physical subculture such as breakdancing and gymnastics Section 3. Serve martial arts as entertainment for the Cornell community Article III Membership Section 1. Membership is open to Cornell University students who: have an interest in the martial arts choreography and a love for Asian cinema. Section 2. Membership will be revoked by the organization for the following conditions: failure to remain in good standing with the university; failure to abide by the constitution's purpose as stated; Article IV Governing Body Section 1. The governing body shall be consisted of a. President b. Treasurer c. Publicity Officer Section 2 Powers and duties:. The President will call to order each meeting, and coordinate martial arts demos and events. The Treasurer shall keep records of the financial status of the organization, and represent the club for financial matters. The Publicity officer is in charge of webpage design, club publications and event promotion. Section 3. Selection of Officers. a. To qualify, the officers must have had a significant amount of participation in the club events. b. Nomination of officers will be from the floor. c. The prescribed selection process will be voting for each office individually, the winner prescribed by a majority vote. Article V Organizational Structure The class portion of each meeting shall be designed by the officers in advance and be carefully coordinated to prevent injuries and accidents during the meeting. Article VI Meetings Section 1. Aiya shall meet once a week. Section 2. The officers shall meet whenever necessary Article VII Advisor Section 1. The advisor shall be a member of the faculty or administration of Cornell University and shall be recommended annually by the members of this organization in a manner agreeable to a majority of the total membership. Section 2. The advisor shall have an interest in Asian cinema and martial arts choreography. Article VIII Amendments Section 1. In order to amend the constitution, a written notice of the proposed amendment shall be circulated to the membership at least two weeks prior to the meeting at which the amendment will be voted upon. Section 2. The amendment to the constitution shall be adopted by a two-thirds vote of the members present at this meeting. Article IX Ratification Section 1. This constitution shall be in effect upon ratification by two-thirds of the voting members present at the ratification session. Article X Cornell University Rules and Regulations Section 1. This organization shall adhere to the Cornell University Student Handbook and all other laws, rules and regulations governing Cornell University, its organizations and its students. Article XI. Student Activities Clause Section 1. Aiya shall maintain a current registration form on file with the Student Activities Office including a list of officers, their addresses and phone numbers, the name of the Advisor, and the most recently amended constitution. Article XII University Liability Cornell University is not responsible for any injuries or illnesses suffered by any member as a result of participation in the Aiya or at events sponsored by the Aiya. Mount Union College Martial Arts club hereby aggress to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Cornell University, its officers, directors, agents, contractors, employees representatives, successors, and assigns from any and all claims, liabilities, damages and penalties, and any and all loss, cost, or expense, including attorney’s fees, incurred by the Cornell University incident to, resulting from, or in any way arising out of any injury or illness suffered by any member, or participant, as a result of his/her participation in said club. Members shall provide, prior to engaging in any physical activity of the club, a general release for injuries, and liability waiver form.
