Reviewing the Solution Implementation Plan

Section 2 Module 1 Lab 1

Objective
After completing this lab, you should be able to review a Solution Implementation
plan (SIP) to determine the following items:

Customers business requirements and key contacts

HP solution

Roles and responsibilities

Considerations

Solution validation

Requirements
To perform this lab, the instructor will provide a completed sample SIP to be used
during the class discussion.
Note
To obtain maximum value from this lab, it should be performed as an instructorled class exercise.

Exercise Reviewing the SIP document

As a class discussion, review the sample SIP provided by the instructor to perform the
following steps from the HP Channel Partners perspective:
1. Review the Introduction section of the SIP and discuss the customers business
requirements and key contacts.
2. Review the HP Solution section of the SIP and discuss the solution design and
the high-level design (HLD) implementation plan.
3. Review the Roles and Responsibilities section of the SIP and discuss the
Channel Partners roles and responsibilities.
4. Review the Considerations section of the SIP and discuss the assumptions
and recommendations regarding system sizing, growth, and performance.

Solution validation
To validate the proposed solution in the sample SIP, answer the following questions:
1. After reviewing the Introduction section, what are the customers business
requirements? How can the HP Superdome solution meet those
requirements?

growth requirements

Planning and Designing HP Superdome Server Solution

Customer scenario
TPR Radeon Inc. is an international HP customer and is the largest supplier and
distributor of radar system components for commercial shipping in the US with
rapidly expanding markets in both Europe and Asia. With 36 percent market share
TPR is looking to expand its market further and increase its worldwide distribution
channel.
The Chief Information Officer (CIO), Thomas Lock, is expecting the computing needs
of the company to show steady growth over the next three years. He needs to
consolidate the four largest development systems into a single system that will handle
the growth over the next three years. He also expects due to an upcoming
acquisition two more development teams will be integrated.
The CIO is confident that the following resources will meet the companys current and
future growth requirements:

A Superdome system for consolidation

The current EVA storage area network (SAN) storage and backup solution

Other considerations include:

The IT staff is not concerned with disaster recovery or clustering at this time.

An Oracle database will be used for all development.

The network bandwidth for data and backup is critical. The 1000BaseSX
adapter must be doubled per application to meet the requirements for data
and backup.

There is no requirement for system management tools at this time, other than
the Support Management Station (SMS) tool for the new system.

The customer requires 24 x 7 support.

The development system is located in the Atlanta headquarters.

Development teams from the pending acquisition will be relocated to Atlanta

headquarters, two additional partitions will be required

The CIO states that the Technical Director, Joe Dukes, is funded for this
project.

Existing environment
The following list depicts the current environment for TPR Radeon Inc., which includes
a total of 40 processors and 128GB of memory:

Additional information
As you gathered technical requirements for TPR Radeon Inc. in the Analysis phase,
you determined the following additional information regarding the design of their
Superdome system:

Rev. 6.31

At this stage, the customer wants to use the latest high performance Itanium
processor.

An SMS is required. Because the customer may add a Windows partition in

the future, the Windows SMS will be selected. The customer also wants to use
the SMS as a console.

The customer wants to minimize downtime for any upgrades, so instant

Capacity (iCAP) processors should be considered the customer also
understands that partitions for the additional development teams will need to
be added later.

Database performance is a top priority to the customer.

The customers system should be optimized for maximum performance at all

stages, including memory, cell, and I/O.

Each development team requires their own hard partition on the system

This system will be used for development and testing only.

The boot disk requirements are two mirrored 73GB boot disks per partition.

2. To select the advanced user interface, click File New Whiteboard
(Advanced UI).

Note
The SBW application may start in the (Advanced UI) depending on the options

11. Click the Global tab. Configure all of the global components such as number
of partitions, power, and support before configuring the individual cells. Your
completed worksheet should resemble the following graphic.

Note
To configure one active processor assembly, you must click the Options tab and
select Processor Placement in Increment of 1. This step allows you to override the
default setting of two processor modules.

13. Configure the following options to enable Partition 1 to have three active
processors and click Apply when finished.

1 active cell board

0 iCAP cell boards

3 processor modules

1 iCAP processor module

When configuring a single iCAP processor, it must be manually enabled.

Note
The software graphics still use the term iCOD, but the most current term for this
feature is iCAP.

Note
If the component list had called for three active processors in Partition 1, there is
no easy way to configure an odd number of active processors because a
processor module contains two processors. The only way to accomplish this is to
order the cell board with two processor modules, but only one active. The iCAP
module will be activated on site. This enablement must be manually entered in
the quote.
