Tian (Candice) Gu Kristen Foster CO 150, 401 16 December 2013 Since should I have sex with my girlfriend/boyfriend? is always a question for people in relationships, the argument about when it is appropriate to engage in sexual relations never ends. As a junior student, I realize that the attitude toward sex among college students tends to be more and more open through the years. This can be observed by the increasing rate of cohabitation among college students as well as the more and more free and open environment for the discussion about sex compared to years ago. Also, with the launch of hookup Apps in 2012 (Tsoulis-reay 33), the culture of hookup, which refer to casual sexual relations, has become rapidly popular on campuses all over the world. This to some extent indicates that the attitude of sex among college student has become more casual than before. I grew up in a traditional academic Chinese family, at which both of my parents are professors. They have a traditional marriage and both of them abstained from sex before marriage. So as you can imagine, I was taught to do the same ever since I was young. However, as a rebellious young woman, Im curious about sex and decided to do some academic research on this issue. I believe this issue is debatable and exigent for a large number of people in a situation similar to my own. In this public argument, Id like to explain why it is good for college students to delay sex in relationships and persuade those who are used to having sex early in relationships to consider delaying sex in their next romantic experiences. According to my research, many plausible reports show that couples can gain benefits, including higher stability and satisfaction for future marriage, if they choose to delay sex during the dating period of the relationship. Since I have

persuaded myself to abstain from sex before marriage, I want to persuade other college students to consider doing so. My claim is compared with those who have sexual activities early in dates, college students who delay to have sex until marriage will gain benefits for long-term relationships including higher stability and satisfaction for future marriages. I use statistics and research results from many sources like Academic Search Premier and the Internet as well as my personal experience to support my reasons and claim. I chose students of Colorado State University (CSU) who are used to having sex early in relationships to be my first audience. Since I am a CSU ram, my opinion may be more persuasive for CSU rams compare to college students in other colleges to some extent. Definitely, my second audience can be all college students who do not abstain from sex in relationships throughout the world. This public argument will be a link on the homepage of the CSU website. I chose to link on it because the CSU website is an official website and thus most CSU rams would browse it every week, which assures me that a lot of my first audience will be able to see it. Additionally, other college students or people who want to apply to CSU will also be able to find it. I chose the website to present my information. I think this genre, of which there are not many restrictions, is suitable for my purpose. Although college students are becoming more and more open-minded, premarital sex is still a sensitive topic, so other serious genre like an open letter may arouse students reverse psychology. Students may feel it is lecturing and feel bored or annoyed by reading a formal genre. The organization, color and language of the website are variable and informal, which is easier to attract students attention. For my website, I used various typeface styles, colorful words, different size for fonts and MLA style for my references.

It seems not easy to find a limitation for the genre of a website because you can do almost everything by using the website. I posted all the materials I found these months to let my target audience have a full picture of my claim. However, since this is a website which only access to the Internet users, students who do not use the Internet may not be able to see my website, which may limit the number of my audience.
