Mary Lenox is a ten years old girl who lives in India with her parents and with the

servants. She is a selfish and bad tempered girl, her parents are always busy and travelling, they almost dont know her daughter. She is taken care by the servants Kamala is the servant who spends more time with her. One day, everybody in that house becomes ill and die but Mary survive and doesnt have nobody to take care of her. She has to go to live with her uncle Archibald Craven who lives in England. He is a really serious man, he is really sad because her wife die ten years ago. He lives in a very big house with a lot of rooms and a secret garden, nobody has been there for years, the key is buried and nobody knows where is. Little by little Mary becomes nicer with the people who live in that new house. In special with Marta a young servant who spends a lot of time with her. Mary wants to discover where the secret garden is, but nobody tells her, she also sometimes hears a cry in the house. Mary becomes Bens friend who is the gardener, she spent a lot of time with him as she was exploring the gardens. One day she discovers the key from the secret garden, she was so happy about that. With help from Dickon, Martas little brother, they both take care of the secret garden, watching the flowers and trees growing up again, they become really good friends. One day in the house Mary heard someone crying again and she went to find who was there crying. Finally she found the room and inside was a little boy who was her cousin Colin Craven, he was ill with her back. With help from Mary Colin feel better and decides to go out to see the secret garden with her and with Dickon. Some days later he isnt sick and he is very happy, he never before had walk and now he does. The three children take care of the secret garden to give a surprise to Mr. Craven. When Mr. Craven came back home, he was really happy to see his son who now was healthy and to see the garden very beautiful. Everybody was excited because they were finally happy again.

Mary Lennox

Shes a ten-year-old girl. Her parents never cared for her so she wasnt even sad when they died of the cholera. Shes sent to Misselthwaite Manor, where her uncle lives. Mary is really an uncaring little girl who never likes anyone and isnt interested in anything exept herself. But at Misselthwaite Manor she learns to like things and people. With Dickon and Colin, her new friends, she plays in the mysterious secret garden she has found and opened for them.

Colin Craven

Hes ten years old like Mary. When he was born, his mother died. Hes very fragile and cant walk. Everyone thinks he wont live to grow up. When he meets Mary he starts to change. With Mary and Dickon he goes out into the secret garden, which his father had locked at his mothers dead. He learns to walk and starts to live like a normal ten-yearold boy. He is Marthas little brother. Hes two years older than Mary and her cousin. He can talk with animals and owns a rook, two squirrels and a fox. When Mary meets him, they go together into the garden; he is the one who told her that the garden was still alive. Together they plant flowers and try to make the garden as beautiful as it was before. Colin and Mary learn a lot of new things from Dickon. She is Dickons elder sister. She works at Misselthwaite Manor as a housemaid. She was the first person to really talk to Mary. Because she talks so much about her brother, Mary wants to see him and make friends with him. She also gives Mary a skipping rope, so that she can play in the gardens. He is Colins father. Because his beloved wife died after Colins birth he is never at home. He tries to forget everything about her and because of that he locked her garden and buried the key. He cant look at Colin when hes awake because his mother had the same eyes, but Colins are still so different, because they dont look happy. Ben is an old gardener. Mrs. Craven liked him a lot. He always keeps looking after her roses in the secret garden, although going into the garden was forbidden by Mr. Craven. Hes grumpy, but Mary likes him anyway. Is the person responsible for the house when Mr. Craven isnt there. Shes also responsible to take care of Mary and Colin. Shes very severe.

Siempre tiene el cuidado de sus rosas en el jardn secreto , a pesar de entrar en el jardn estaba prohibido por el Sr. Craven . l es grun, pero Mara le gusta de todos modos. Sra. Medlock seora Medlock es la persona responsable de la casa cuando el Sr. Craven no est all. Ella tambin es responsable de cuidar de Mara y Colin . Es muy grave.

Mara quiere descubrir dnde el jardn secreto es , pero nadie le dice , tambin a veces oye un grito en la casa. Mara se convierte en amigo de Ben , que es el jardinero, que pas mucho tiempo con l mientras estaba explorando los jardines. Un da descubre la llave del jardn secreto , ella estaba tan feliz por eso. Con la ayuda de Dickon , el hermano menor de Marta , ambos cuidan el jardn secreto , mirando las flores y los rboles que crecen ms, se convierten en muy buenos amigos . Un da en la casa de Mara oy a alguien llorar de nuevo y ella fue a buscar a quien estaba all llorando. Finalmente se encontr con la habitacin y el interior era un nio que era su primo Colin Craven, que estaba enferma de la espalda. Con la ayuda de Mara, Colin se sienta mejor y decide ir a ver el jardn secreto con ella y con Dickon . Algunos das ms tarde, no est enferma y l est muy contento , nunca antes haba a pie y ahora lo hace . Los tres nios cuidan el jardn secreto para dar una sorpresa al Sr. Craven . Cuando el Sr. Craven lleg a casa , estaba muy feliz de ver a su hijo, que ahora estaba sano y ver el jardn muy bonito . Todo el mundo estaba emocionado porque estaban finalmente felices de nuevo .

MARY LENNOX, CRECIENDO ENTRE LA INDIA E INGLATERRA

Tan slo es necesario tener buenos amigos a nuestro lado para conseguir ser ms fuertes, ms felices, sentirnos queridos y as continuar nuestro camino alcanzando lo que nos propongamos. Desde Misselthwaite Manor y en el jardn de la casa del Seor Craven, bajo un cielo gris nos encontramos junto a Mary Lennox una nia de diez aos muy cambiada y que ha aprendido muchas cosas desde que vino de la India.

Qu recuerdas tienes de tu infancia en la India? Una vida triste y solitaria, porque mi padre siempre estaba de viaje y mi madre no me dedicaba mucho tiempo, ella siempre estaba de fiesta y no tenan tiempo para m, ni siquiera me conocan. Con quin pasabas ms tiempo? Kamala era mi sirvienta y con la persona que ms tiempo pasaba. Tu carcter era cmo el de una nia de 9 aos? No, tengo que reconocer que mi carcter era muy egosta, mezquino y prepotente, creo que haca pagar a todo el mundo, el vaco que yo senta por no tener una familia que me diera cario. Pero ese carcter podramos decir que te salvo la vida? Efectivamente, as fue. Me encerr en mi cuarto durante una semana porque me enfad con Kamala porque no haba venido a curarme. Cuando sal de la habitacin todos haban muerto a causa del clera.

Y entonces, comienzas una nueva etapa?

S al quedarme hurfana me llevaron a casa de mi to Mr. Craven en Misselthwaite Manor, pero pareca que me haba cado una maldicin porque mi to, tampoco estaba nunca en casa y tampoco quera saber nada de m. Al llegar a la casa, cul es tu primera impresin al conocer a Marta? Pensaba que era otra sirvienta pesada, pero al final me di cuenta que era buena y que quera ayudarme para que no me encontrara sola. Marta me present a su hermano Dickon. Cuentanos algo de tus nuevos amigos Primero conoc a Dickon, un nio de doce aos que se comunicaba con los animales, me trajo las semillas para plantarlas en el jardn y a partir de ah nos hicimos buenos amigos y nos veamos todas las tardes. Despus Colin, que era mi primo, aunque tarde en averiguarlo. Qu le pasaba a Colin? Su padre no lo quera ver y siempre le deca que estaba enfermo, hasta tal punto que el nio tena los sntomas de una enfermedad que no padeca. Ver a Colin le traa recuerdos de su mujer y por eso no lo quera. Cmo encontraste la llave? Iba caminando por la montaa de detrs de casa y v que algo brillaba, y all estaba la llave del jardn secreto. Y despus? Colin, Dickon y yo nos dirigimos al jardn secreto, plantbamos semillas, cuidbamos los rboles y las flores, y sobre todo nos hacamos compaa y lo pasbamos muy bien, por fin haba encontrado una verdadera familia, adems de unos grandes amigos.

Mary hoy en da es una nia muy diferente, agradable, divertida y muy feliz, dice que cuando sea mayor ayudar a todos esos nios y nias que por circunstancias de la vida han quedado solos en el mundo. Nuevamente esta historia nos relata que ante las cosas ms complicadas de la vida, siempre que estemos rodeados de buenas personas alcanzaremos todas nuestras metas.

- Indeed, it was. I locked myself in my room for a week because I was angry with Kamala because they had come to heal . When I left the room all had died of cholera.

And then, you start a new phase?

- Yes to stay orphan brought me to my uncle Mr. Craven in Misselthwaite Manor, but it seemed that I had dropped a curse because my uncle was not home and neither ever wanted to know about me.

I first met Dickon , a boy of twelve who communicated with animals , I brought the seeds to plant in the garden and from there we became good friends and we met every afternoon.
