Indo-Australia Workshop on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for Mining, Mineral Processing and Metal Extraction and Power

Generation

Sustainability Assessment Tool for Industries

Mon 20 - Tue 21 January 2014

Rotary Sadan near Rabindra Sadan Metro Station 94/2 Chowringhee Road, Kolkata 700020, India

Life cycle assessment (LCA) is a key tool for all industries and businesses in the developed and developing world for the assessment of sustainability of processes and products, be it mining, processing of coal and minerals, metal extraction and power generation. This workshop will demonstrate the application of LCA to identify energy efficiency opportunities and challenges to the mining, mineral processing and metal extraction, and power generation industries with particular reference to India and Australia. By attending this event the participants will:
learn about LCA including case studies from the mining sector from Australia and elsewhere identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency of different unit operations identify opportunities to reduce environmental impacts made by your mines and/or plants increase their understanding of the supply chain understand the carbon emission implications for all the constituent segments of this sector develop an understanding of international standards and developments in LCA and the Life Cycle Database Initiatives in various countries (e.g. AusLCI, USLCI, ILCI, EULCI etc) gain access to utilise LCA resources and softwares for this mine to metal sector contribute to the evolution of LCA to benefit this sector network with international LCA experts manage risks to increase business efficiencies
